We are seeking a high-calibre Senior Data Engineer to be a foundational senior leader of this transformation. This is a chance to build greenfield, mission-critical infrastructure that defines the national standard for a unified data platform and ethical AI deployment in healthcare.You will work closely with the Data & AI Platform lead, Data & AI Engineering & Analytics teams and clinical and operational stakeholders to deliver governed, high-performing and scalable data solutions across one of Australia''s most diverse health and aged care ministries.This role is central to enabling remote patient monitoring, virtual care, AI-assisted clinical decision support and predictive analytics models that enhance safety, reduce administrative burden and improve care outcomes across our public hospitals, private hospitals, aged care services and virtual health programs.What you''ll doBuild, optimise and maintain enterprise-grade data pipelines (ETL/ELT) across Azure Data Factory, Databricks/Fabric and SQL/Analysis ServicesGather, profile and integrate data from multiple systems to feed our Data Lakehouse and analytical modelsOwn the pipelines that ingest complex FHIR and HL7 streams from our multi-EMR landscape, translating disparate clinical formats into a standardised, unified business solutions by data modelling/data architecture, performing impact/risk/gap analysis, identification of facts, dimensions, aggregates and hierarchiesDeliver optimised business solutions by data Azure data resources programmaticallySupport AI readiness by designing and building ML- and Generative-AI-optimised pipelines, including Vector Database pipelines (for RAG architectures) and governed feature storesCollaborate with Data Scientists to operationalise machine learning models (MLOps), managing model registries, feature stores, and drift monitoringContribute to AI system governance by implementing data lineage, bias detection, and PII masking techniques within the data pipelines to ensure patient privacy and responsible data useIdentify new opportunities for data gathering including the ingestion of unstructured data (clinical notes, images) to support downstream AI applicationsWhat you''ll bring5+ years'' experience in data engineering, data management and data warehousing.Tertiary qualification Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related fieldMinimum 5 years'' experience in data engineering, data management, data modelling, data architecture and data warehousing technologies and practicesDemonstrable recent experience (ideally at least three years) in ETL and data warehouse solution design on Microsoft Azure platforms, including Azure Data FactoryStrong hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, SQL, Python/Scala and modern Data Lakehouse platforms (Databricks or Microsoft Fabric)Experience with modern Data Lakehouse architectures blending data warehousing and data science capabilitiesSolid understanding of dimensional modelling, star schema design and cloud data architecturesSound knowledge of Relational Database management concepts and data modellingExperience building optimised pipelines for ML/AI applications, or a desire to deepen skills in this areaFamiliarity with Power BI, Analysis Services and enterprise reporting ecosystemsExcellent business acumen with the ability to work with stakeholders at all levelsDesirable SkillsKnowledge and experience of the health industryExposure to structured/unstructured data, big data architecture and predictive analytics solutionsKnowledge of Generative AI concepts, including Prompt Engineering, RAG architectures, vector databases, and using
