The role will provide and deliver contemporary education programs and initiatives for umpire coaches and related roles across all competitions and leagues from community through to the elite. It will ensure we provide quality coaching environments and practices, that will support growth in umpire numbers and increased performance of all umpires throughout AFL NSW/ACT.This role is ideal for aspiring or experienced coaches regardless of technical umpiring proficiency.Our goal at the AFL is to progress the game so that everyone can share its heritage and possibilities, and this role truly contributes to this goal.This is a critical role based in Sydney, that will continue to drive Australian Rules Football (AFL) to be a more accessible game for all to enjoy the benefits that sport has membersNSW/ACT Community Football Managers and team membersA Day In The Life OfCoach Education & DevelopmentDeliver and continually refine umpire coach education programs aligned to AFL national frameworks, from community through to elite levels inclusive of Sydney based VFL/AFL Umpires.Facilitate training and education for umpire coaches, including workshops, seminars, online learning and practical on-field sessions.Equip umpire coaches with contemporary coaching methodologies, teaching techniques, and feedback models to support umpire performance and retention.Support the professional development of emerging and high-performance umpire coaches, ensuring clear development pathways.Support recruitment and retention initiatives to grow the umpire base as required.Executing umpire coaching initiatives or programs to support greater diversity in all levels of coaches through Women and Girls, Diversity and Inclusion and Indigenous communities.Curriculum & Learning FrameworksImplement and adapt AFL umpire education curriculum to meet local, state and national priorities with a focus on the AFL Syndey competition.Ensure all educational content aligns with AFL laws of the game, interpretations, and umpiring philosophies.Contribute to the development of learning resources, coaching guides, assessment tools and digital education content.Coach Support & MentoringProvide ongoing mentoring and support to umpire coaches across community leagues, talent pathways and elite programs.Build capability in volunteer and paid umpire coaches, with a focus on confidence, clarity and inclusion.Stakeholder EngagementWork collaboratively with AFL umpiring departments, leagues, umpiring associations and academies to coordinate education delivery.Act as a key point of contact for umpire coach education matters.Core CompetenciesCoaching & Coach DevelopmentStrong ability to teach, support and develop umpire coaches at community, and elite levels.Ability to help coaches improve how they teach umpires, give feedback and build confidence.Coaching Observation & FeedbackAbility to watch coaches in action and provide helpful, constructive feedback.Confidence supporting coaches to improve communication, decision-making and in-field teaching.Education & Program DeliveryExperience delivering training sessions, workshops and practical education activities.Ability to adapt education to suit volunteer and part-time coaches.Comfortable using and creating coaching resources and session plans.Communication & People SkillsClear and confident communicator who can engage groupsComfortable facilitating discussions and learning in group settings.Working With OthersAbility to work with umpiring associations, leagues and AFL staff.Able to align local delivery with AFL expectations and frameworks and policies.Organisation & ProfessionalismWell organised and able to manage multiple education activities.Acts professionally and always reflects AFL values.Keen to keep learning and improving as a coach educator.Understands the importance of safe, inclusive and respectful coaching environments.Mandatory requirementsCoaching & or Education ExperienceExperienced coaching background in community or elite sportExperience delivering coach education or training sessions.Umpiring KnowledgeGood understanding of AFL Laws of the Game and umpiring practices.Previous experience as an umpire or umpire coach, preferred but not essential.Qualifications & ChecksRelevant AFL coaching or umpiring accreditation (or willingness to
