About the Position Join our team to work on the core PLEXOS engine, building and optimizing advanced algorithms that power energy market simulations worldwide. This role is perfect for a software engineer who thrives on solving complex, high-impact problems at the intersection of mathematics, energy systems, and high-performance computing. Expertlevel proficiency in C# and modern .NET development, with strong emphasis on high-performance, scalable algorithmic code Proven ability to design, implement, and optimize mathematical and optimization algorithms for largescale systems Strong experience with optimization solvers (e.g., CPLEX, Gurobi, Xpress) and solver integration Advanced debugging, profiling, and performancetuning skills for computationally intensive applications Solid understanding of software architecture, modular design, and maintainable enginelevel code Ability to work effectively with complex legacy codebases while driving modernization and improvement Experience leading technical design discussions and providing mentorship to senior and junior engineers Strong analytical thinking, problemsolving, and communication skills Knowledge Deep knowledge of power systems modelling, understanding of electricity markets and market mechanisms (e.g., energy, capacity, ancillary services) Strong foundation in operations research, including Linear, mixedinteger, and nonlinear optimization, Stochastic and scenariobased modelling Familiarity with timeseries modelling, large data sets, and numerical stability issues Knowledge of parallel computing, multithreading, and memory management for algorithmheavy engines Candidate Requirements & Qualifications 5-8+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with significant focus on algorithm or engine development Demonstrated experience working on or developing PLEXOS models or comparable power market simulation/optimization platforms Track record of delivering and maintaining missioncritical analytical engines used in production environments Experience translating complex business or market requirements into robust technical solutions Prior experience in a technical leadership or principallevel role, influencing architecture and longterm technical direction Experience collaborating with domain experts (e.g., power system analysts, market analysts) to refine models and algorithms Background in energy, utilities, or power market consulting/software development is strongly preferred Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative discipline Masters degree or PhD in Power Systems, Operations Research, Optimization, or a closely related field is highly desirable Energy Exemplar is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
