As Legal Advisor Merchant Energy, youll provide timely, pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice to our Trading & Portfolio Management, Commercial & Industrial, Power Generation & Development teams. There are plenty of other great benefits of working for Alinta Energy, including flexible working, energy discounts, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a paid volunteer day each year, fully stocked kitchens, and lots more.What Youll Do Act as the primary point of contact for all commercial and industrial energy sales contracts across both gas and electricity business units nationwide Work with external counsel to manage commercial customer disputes to successful resolution Deliver timely, commercially sound and pragmatic legal advice to fast-paced wholesale trading business units in both East Coast and West Coast markets Provide legal advice on a wide range of commercial matters across wholesale trading, commercial and industrial customer sales, spot trading and new markets including microgrid solar project development Draft and negotiate a broad range of energy, sales and development contracts and maintain templates and special conditions registers Integrate fully into the business and act as a trusted advisor for commercial stakeholders Collaborate with internal stakeholders including sales, risk, tax, corporate services and treasury teams to provide holistic support to sales functions Champion governance, risk management and continuous improvement across Merchant Energy Work with senior lawyers to support power generation and development projects through construction, operations and ongoing asset management Work with senior lawyers to support regulatory and compliance functions with rule change implications for our commercial and industrial and wholesale trading arms as well as regulatory investigations Work with senior lawyers to support portfolio management activities including drafting, negotiating and maintaining large-scale power purchase agreements, derivatives trading agreements and green products Manage external legal advisers as needed Qualifications 46 years experience as a solicitor, either inhouse or in private practice Strong background in commercial contracting Ability to deliver concise, businessfocused legal advice in complex environments Proven stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trusted relationships Previous in-house experience is highly regarded Experience in the energy or infrastructure sectors or as a contract lawyer in other highly regulated industries is highly regarded Please note this role requires full working rights within Australia.
