OverviewThe EHS Officer role is a 12 month position based on site in Rutherford NSW, reporting to the WHS Lead.Lead and drive continuous improvement of the site EHS Management System, ensuring compliance with Australian and NSW legislation and alignment with global EHS standards. Deliver proactive frontline support in risk management, process and occupational safety, incident prevention, and environmental protection, embedding the hierarchy of controls and a culture of continual improvement into daily operations.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESLegislative Compliance (NSW): Ensure legal requirements are into our day-to-day operations.Risk Management Conduct and maintain risk assessments/JSEAs/SWMS for manufacturing/maintenance, API processes, R&D and Laboratory activities, maintenance tasks, material handling, confined spaces, work at heights. Implement hierarchy of controls for control risks and verify effectiveness through inspections and leading indicators.Hazardous Chemicals Maintain chemical registers and SDS library; verify decanting/labeling and storage segregation (flammables, toxics, oxidizers, corrosives). Daily usage inspection and auditing.Permit-to-Work & Contractor Safety Administer permits (hot work, confined space, energized work/isolation, working at heights). Conduct contractor inductions, verify SWMS, licenses, insurances, and monitor compliance during works.Incident Management & Reporting Support incident/near miss reporting, participate in investigations using and track corrective and preventive actions.Inspections, Audits & Monitoring Conduct EHS inspections and behavior observations; follow up on findings through Cority. Assist with internal EHS audits. Coordinate environmental monitoring (e.g., bund integrity checks, spill kits, waste areas, VOC controls, stormwater protection).Emergency Preparedness Maintain emergency equipment (spill kits, eyewash/showers, fire extinguishers, first aid kits) up to date. Support emergency response planning and drills (chemical spills, fire, gas release). Participate in site Emergency Response Team activities and training.Training & Communication Deliver toolbox talks and inductions; maintain training records and apply test for EHS-critical tasks. Deliver EHS trainings. Promote Home Safe, Every Day Culture Training.Documentation & Systems Support EHS KPIs and dashboards (TRIFR, LTIs, near misses, incidents). Ensure Training records are recorded.Qualifications & ExperienceDesired Skills and ExperienceEducation and Experience*Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (or higher) preferred; or relevant tertiary qualification in science/engineering/EHS.*Experience (2+ years) in EHS within chemical, or manufacturing environments.*Familiarity with NSW WHS Act 2011 and WHS Regulation 2017; SafeWork NSW guidance; GHS; and relevant Codes of Practice (hazardous chemicals, risk management, confined spaces, etc).*Understanding Risk Management and Incident Investigation Methodologies.*Experience with permits-to-work, contractor management, incident investigation, and risk assessment.*Advantageous: Exposure to process safety, HAZOP participation, Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Chemicals compliance, and environmental regulation.Technical Skills Requirements Field leadership presence, safety conversations, respectbased interventions Ability to work as part of a multi-skilled team Skilled negotiator Action-Oriented Integrity-driven #J-18808-Ljbffr
