Overview We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership and engineering oversight across NewPros mining, mineral processing, and battery recycling projects. The role requires extensive experience across the full project lifecycle, from early concept and study phases through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning. Working within multidisciplinary project teams, the engineer will support design, procurement, construction support, testing, and commissioning of process-driven facilities. The work spans a range of commodities, including gold, lithium, iron ore, and base metals, across projects in Australia and overseas. The position supports both greenfield and brownfield projects and contributes to process optimisation, operability, and reliability improvements across a range of process-driven facilities. Responsibilities Lead and approve key process engineering deliverables, including process design basis, PFDs, P&IDs, mass balances, equipment sizing, and technical specifications. Provide technical direction and review of process inputs, including engineering calculations, to mechanical, electrical, structural, and layout disciplines to ensure integrated design outcomes. Defining and recommending design methods, specifications and performance requirements for new projects, aligned with project scope and applicable standards. Lead commissioning tasks to ensure project readiness and compliance with design intent and specifications. Identify, assess, and manage technical, operational, financial, and safety risks across all phases of mining and mineral processing projects. Mentor and guide Senior and Junior Engineers on technical matters and engineering best practices. Support project managers during proposal development, scoping, estimating, and execution phases with technical input and judgement. Qualifications Tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Civil and Structural Engineering or equivalent tertiary qualification. 12+ years experience in Mechanical Engineering. Proven experience in a Principal or Lead Mechanical Engineer role within an engineering consultancy or project delivery environment in Australia and abroad. A strong working knowledge with a range of relevant design software packages. Site experience supporting construction, installation, commissioning, and handover activities. Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor and guide Senior and Junior Engineers.
