It helps us understand what we need now, and into the future.The Census is run every five years. It32s one of the largest and most important collections to count the number of people and houses in Australia. The Census asks questions about your age, country of birth, cultural background, living situation, work and education. It32s used to estimate Australia32s population, distribute government funds, and plan services for individuals, families and communities.The next Census will be held in early August 2026.About the roleField Managers play a crucial part in ensuring the Census data is being collected to help businesses and governments make important decisions. It is also used to help plan local services for individuals, families, and communities.As a Field Manager, you will play a key role in leading Census field operations within your designated area. This area may be in your local community or in neighbouring regions, and some Field Managers may need to travel outside their immediate locality. This role requires flexibility with the need to work across weekdays, evenings, and weekends to ensure Census Field activities run smoothly and on schedule.As a Field Manager you will need to:Download and use the required Census applications on your mobile phone or tablet device. Training will be providedReceive, store, and distribute Census materials to your field teamUse your vehicle to travel to work areas within your geographical regionResponsibilitiesRecruit, train, manage and support a team of 612 field staffReview your work area for major changes, housing developments, and identify potential work, health and safety hazardsEngage with hotels, hospitals, caravan parks and other establishments to help them prepare for the CensusLiaise with managers of secure apartment buildings to arrange accessReview, check, and approve timesheets for your field staff in a timely manner including other required documentationEnsure the safety and wellbeing of your team while conducting field workProvide procedural and on-the-ground support, including monitoring progress and resolving issuesCommunicate regularly with the ABS management team regarding your work area and progressCoordinate the delivery, receipt, distribution and return of Census materials to your teamKey capabilities and experienceProven experience in leading, managing, and supporting a team to deliver the required outcomesPrevious recruitment and training experienceAbility to follow instructions and adhere to set proceduresHighly organised with strong attention to detail, especially in high-volume environments with strict deadlinesAbility to use your personal electronic device (mobile phone or tablet), for work purposes, including downloading and using required Census applications to support field activitiesUnderstanding and promoting the importance of personal safety, particularly during field workAbility to communicate sensitively and respectfully, considering diverse cultural backgroundsPhysical capability to receive, store, and move materials as requiredOther InformationYour residential address will be used to match you to opportunities in your region.
