We Deliver Together.The OpportunityThe Principal Engineer is a senior technical leadership role within the Mission Integration Operating Unit, responsible for assuring the technical integrity, governance, and quality of engineering outcomes across complex Defence programs and capture activities. Acting as Technical Authority, the role provides strategic and operational direction across Mission Integration, ensuring engineering capability, assurance, and professional standards are consistently applied and aligned with KBR and customer regulatory frameworks.The role leads the development and governance of engineering processes, technical assurance, delegations, and quality systems, working closely with program and project engineering leads, Chief and Principal Engineers, and broader Operating Units. This includes oversight of engineering deliverables, review of designs and technical artefacts, and provision of expert guidance to projects operating under both KBR and customer systems and procedures.The Principal Engineer also plays a key role in shaping the professionalisation and development of the engineering workforce, including workforce planning, learning and development frameworks, and career pathways. Working in partnership with People & Culture, the role drives technical excellence, capability sharing, and continuous improvement across the Mission Systems portfolio in a highly regulated Defence environment.ResponsibilitiesThe key responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:Provides leadership and technical direction as Technical Authority across the Mission Integration Operating UnitWorks closely with Operational Unit and program/project engineering leads and their staffAssume responsibility for defining and governing requirements and adequateness of competences and professionalisation of the engineering and technical workforce within Mission Integration OU to meet the needs of the businessDevelops and maintains Mission Integration Operating Unit and ADSS engineering processes and procedures that interface with the broader KBR Quality systemManage process for delegations and approves delegations to Engineering Leaders as well as approval of the technical assurance process that covers subdelegation to the engineering and technical workforceManage the delivery of the Technical Assurance functions, including quality assurance, audit, analysis, corrective action, reporting and lessons learntProvide leadership and assistance to programs and projects on an as required basis including technical advice and direction, and sourcing internal or external expertise as requiredProvide direction and guidance with developing and maintaining a framework for technical learning and developmentWork closely with Operational Units and People and Culture in developing the careers of technical personnel including training and professionalisation needs, and potential rolesAttend project status reviewsQualifications, Skills and ExperienceBachelor''s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (equivalent to a 4-year Washington Accord accredited program), along with relevant professional certifications to enable professional registrationRegistration or immediate eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with an Australian professional institution e.g. Engineers Australia or Professionals Australia (FIEAust, CPEng, PE)Registration or immediate eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Australia to satisfy the requirements of the Australian State based Acts (as applicable) and/or any Australian Federal regulationsExperience of Senior level delegation with responsibility at Design Engineering Level or Compliance VerificationExperience of leading large engineering teams (>12 engineers) in an operational roleProfessional Engineer with 15y+ of experience in digital systems, including significant experience of Defence Engineering across multiple domains and programs.
