OverviewThe Science and Surveillance Group (SSG) is a team of scientists and support staff providing biosecurity advice, training, and policy input nationwide. From safeguarding the Torres Strait to implementing the Northern Australia Quarantine Strategy, SSG plays a key role in protecting Australia.The Business Management Unit (BMU) provides strategic, governance and finance support across the Branch. The Finance Manager sits within the BMU and undertakes finance functions across the Science and Surveillance Group branch.This is where you play an important role.ResponsibilitiesAs the Assistant Director - Finance Manager, you will:Manage financial operations - including budgeting, forecasting, costings for policy proposals, and general ledger reconciliation.Implement and expand - cost recovery arrangements within legislative frameworks.Analyse - conduct financial analysis to mitigate risks and improve business outcomes.Communications - prepare and review high-quality financial reports, business cases, and strategic documents for diverse audiences.Strategic Planning - contribute to strategic planning for finance and workforce initiatives, supporting decision-making with data.Stakeholder engagement and support - build strong working relationships both internally and externally and manage staff, ensuring compliance with APS Values and relevant legislation.Ideal candidate / QualificationsKnowledge and Experience:Knowledge in Commonwealth Financial practices would be highly desirable.Demonstrated financial/budget management experience including Technology One.Knowledge of Commonwealth procurement process would be desirable.VetPathsThe Australian Public Service (APS) values the unique skills, perspectives, and experiences that veterans gain during their Australian Defence Force (ADF) employment and encourage veterans to apply.
