OverviewIndigenous Programs Coordinator, Australian Volunteers Program. Fixed-term contract until June 2027, full-time role based at AVI Head Office in Fitzroy Melbourne (Wurundjeri Country). Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designated position. Indigenous Pathways is an Indigenous-led component of the program that aims to grow and strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation by providing culturally safe, flexible and tailored support.AVI is a not-for-profit organisation and manages the Australian Volunteers Program on behalf of the Australian Government. The Australian Volunteers Program enables skilled Australian volunteers to support partner organisations in 26 countries across the Pacific, Asia and Africa to progress their development objectives.Role OverviewThe Indigenous Programs Coordinator will play a key role in coordinating Indigenous Pathways activities, including supporting Indigenous volunteers throughout their journey, engaging with Indigenous organisations, and helping deliver projects. The role will support meaningful connections between Indigenous people and organisations in Australia and internationally with a focus on collaboration, shared learning and projects that deliver mutual benefit, respect local knowledge systems, and honour Indigenous leadership.Position RequirementsRelevant coordination experience working on programs with a strong Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander focus.Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary matters, with demonstrated experience engaging and building relationships with a diverse number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and groups.Strong attention to detail and highly organised, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritise workloads.Good interpersonal, cross-cultural and relationship building skills and the ability to provide practical support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander program participants/community members when required.Good communication skills including word processing, Excel, the ability to draft documents in a professional manner and communicate with diverse groups of people.Understanding of and commitment to EEO, child protection and privacy principles.Tertiary qualifications are not required but TAFE or university qualifications in international development, community/social services, partnerships or Indigenous studies is also desirable.This is an Identified position and being an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is considered a ''genuine occupational qualification'' in accordance with section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. The role of Indigenous Programs Coordinator is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Designated Position, classified under ''special measures'' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.Remuneration & LocationFixed-term contract until June 2027, full-time role based in AVI Head Office in Fitzroy Melbourne (Wurundjeri Country). Flexible working arrangements.
