Job SummaryJob SummaryWe are inviting applications for a full time consultant for six months. There is currently a 1 in 12 on-call rota for General Surgery at Ipswich Hospital with a 4/3 split (Mon-Thurs and Fri-Sun on-calls). The on-call general surgeon is expected to manage appendicitis in children over age 5; other childhood surgical conditions are managed by the Ipswich paediatrics team with paediatric surgeons in Norwich. Vascular surgery emergencies are handled by the on-call vascular team in Colchester.Support provision of surgical services to maintain compliance with RTT timeframeProvide leadership in developing the hot gallbladder serviceProvide upper GI specialist general surgery services (laparoscopic cholecystectomy, common bile duct exploration and laparoscopic fundoplication, among others). You will have the opportunity to be mentored and trained in fields of interestIssuing of advice to GPs on suitability of patients for referral to outpatients or admission to hospitalThe candidate is expected to be based at Ipswich Hospital.
