In this role, you will contribute to the development of cutting-edge diagnostic solutions, leveraging your expertise to drive assay development and validation projects. Collaboration is key, as you will interface with cross-functional teams, including bioinformatics, biostatistics, data science, clinical operations, and regulatory affairs. Proficiency in molecular biology methods for nucleic acid characterization and related applications is essential, along with a critical and creative approach to problem-solving.ResponsibilitiesGrow and lead a team of chemists, train junior scientists for safe and effective laboratory techniques. Manage chemistry safety and proper handling of chemicals and solventsEvaluate and optimize processes and materials within the Chemistry R&D operationsInitiate, design, and execute experiments to develop and/or improve high-value novel technology for development of diagnostic testsUse organic chemistry synthetic, analytical and informational tools to independently develop and optimize processes for chemistry technology innovationsProvide expert support and guidance regarding experiment design, data analysis, and results to the broader scientific team. Participate in troubleshooting.Collaborate across multiple departments to ensure seamless integration of scientific insights into broader research goalsBuild oligonucleotide R&D operations starting with selection of instrumentations, organizing the lab area, handling of the materials and waste. Develop purification and analytical methodsListen to the technological demands and issues that can be addressed by chemistry innovative solutions. Lead implementation of new technologies into improvements in the current processes and into development of new CareDx products and servicesQualificationsPh.D. in organic chemistry with 5+ years of relevant experience. Candidates with a BS or MS in organic chemistry and significant industrial experience (5-10 years) may also be considered. Technology development experience in Life Sciences is preferredExperience in synthesis, analysis and conjugations of oligonucleotides. Experience with building research oligo operations is preferredSolid foundation in organic chemistry, with hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry. Familiarity with DNA sequencing chemistry is a plusExpertise in nucleic acid extraction, purification and target enrichment techniquesStrong interdisciplinary communication skills to foster collaboration and effective knowledge exchangeFabrication of superparamagnetic beads and nanoparticles for use in novel diagnostics technologies. Good practical knowledge in surface modifications for bioaffinity and antifoulingExperience in scale-up in organic synthesis, managing safety and cost issues from R&D to materials production. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include, but are not limited to, the type and length of experience within the job, the type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units.
