This role is pivotal in driving national and international initiatives that protect and revitalize First Languages.You will represent and advocate nationally and internationally, including at the United Nations and global forums to promote policy collaboration, partnership, and international dialogue in support of Indigenous language rights and cultural sustainability.This is a remote position.Key Responsibilities1. Strategic Leadership & GovernanceImplement the Strategic Plan and monitor progress against key milestones.Ensure transparency and timely communication of decisions and outcomes.Support governance processes, including reporting to the Directions Group and stakeholders.Develop systems for succession planning and leadership development.Lead a national campaign to normalize First Languages in everyday life.Coordinate advocacy efforts with government, philanthropic bodies, and peak organizations.Embed Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles in all advocacy and communications.3. Community Engagement & PartnershipsDevelop platforms for community networking and collaboration.Facilitate partnerships across health, education, justice, and employment sectors.Convene national and regional forums, summits, and international representation opportunities.4. International Collaboration & Knowledge SharingDevelop and formalise international partnerships and exchange programmes.Coordinate global knowledgesharing initiatives and publish case studies.Represent IDIL Australia in international and national forums, including UN and UNESCOled events, ensuring community priorities are reflected.5. Operational ManagementOversee budgets, funding proposals, and resource allocation.Manage staff and contractors to deliver strategic objectives.Ensure compliance with governance standards and reporting requirements.About YouYou are a passionate, visionary and respected Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader with a deep commitment to preserving and strengthening Indigenous languages and cultures. You bring strategic insight, cultural integrity, and the ability to influence at national and international levels guiding complex initiatives that deliver meaningful outcomes for communities.You will have:Significant executive experience within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communitycontrolled sector or similar.Proven ability to lead strategic programs or policy initiatives with national or international impact.Strong understanding of processes, policy frameworks, and advocacy within Indigenous affairs and in international multilateral forums.Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, with the ability to collaborate effectively across business, community, government, and international partners.Strong leadership and team management skills, fostering high performance through cultural strength and integrity.Excellent communication and representation skills, including experience presenting at senior forums or global platforms.Highlevel analytical, organisational, and financial acumen, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.Commitment to embedding culturally safe and selfdetermined approaches in leadership and decisionmaking.Want to know more?To apply, please submit your CV and a short cover letter outlining your interest in the role and how you meet the requirements.
