OverviewTo provide therapeutic services to children and young people aged 10 to 17 years who have sexually harmed another person. Services are also provided to the family and/or carers of the child or young person. This is achieved by providing consultation and guidance to interagency partners in relation to risk assessment re: recidivism and safety planning in a variety of settings, and by providing community education and development activities aimed at increasing awareness of child sexual assault by children and young people and to provide communities with strategies to identify understand and respond to sexualised behaviours.What you''ll be doingTo provide therapeutic services to children and young people aged 10 to 17 years who have sexually harmed another person. Eligibility for membership of AASW or registration as a psychologist. Minimum of 3 years post graduate experience as a social worker or psychologist.Demonstrated ability to provide counselling services to individuals, and families in the context of child sexual assault, trauma, violence and abuse. Counselling is informed by current theoretical approaches to therapy and the principles of safety, welfare and wellbeing of children and young people.Understanding of intergenerational trauma, child sexual abuse and the principles of family focussed intervention in the context of the legal and policy framework governing child protection in NSW.Ability to engage with young people who have sexually abused and with their families, including Aboriginal children and families.Understanding of the impact of colonisation on Aboriginal people and communities and its relationship to Aboriginal family violence. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with Aboriginal communities in culturally competent ways and commitment to addressing Aboriginal health and community needs.Demonstrated ability to work as part of a small therapeutic team, which is supported by demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.Willingness to undertake accreditation with the Child Sex Offender Counsellor Accreditation Scheme administered by the NSW Children''s Guardian.Current NSW Driver''s License.Note: This job description includes information on salary and benefits, the organization, and the local area to help candidates assess fit.About Broken HillA true "Oasis in the Outback", Broken Hill is a thriving regional town in far west NSW full of diversity, history and character.
