This role combines technical excellence with commercial responsibility - you''ll not only deliver exceptional bookkeeping services through your team but also assess engagement scope, prepare competitive quotes, and ensure profitable client relationships.You''ll manage expectations with high-powered founders, and departmental teams in high-growth companies. The role offers endless opportunities to support cutting-edge technology companies.Key QualificationsDegree in Finance, Accounting, or Commerce7+ years progressive accounting and finance experienceProven experience managing teams of bookkeepers/accountants across 50+ clientsSenior or Management experience with emphasis on quality controlCommercial experience in pricing, quoting, and engagement managementDeep knowledge of Australian accounting standards, GST, and compliance requirementsExpert-level Xero proficiency and app ecosystem knowledgeSuperior communication and presentation skillsAdvanced Excel and financial reporting software capabilitiesPreferred Qualifications:Top 100 firm experience with mid-sized, tech, or eCommerce clientsExperience with Australian tax legislation and BAS preparationSome audit experience will be beneficial but not criticalBackground in pricing professional services or engagement scopingTrack record of profitable client portfolio managementDay-to-Day ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Executive Team, your key responsibilities include:Manage a portfolio of Australian clients (startups to scale-ups) in a financial controller capacity along your teamEnsure 5-star quality bookkeeping, BAS preparation, and Australian compliance requirementsOversee financial management including monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and statutory reportingPresent results and insights to non-finance stakeholdersCommercial ManagementAssess and quote on new bookkeeping engagements based on client complexity and scopeLead discovery meetings on potential bookkeeping engagementsNegotiate engagement updates and manage scope changes with clientsMonitor engagement profitability and billing efficiencyManage client billing cycles, collections, and engagement scope trackingIdentify opportunities for service expansion and value-added offeringsLead, mentor, and develop a team of 5-10 remote bookkeepersReview bookkeeping work and reporting packages to ensure quality standardsStreamline accounting workflows for both basic and complex requirementsSupport team professional development and Xero certificationStrategic Finance Functions (in tandem with your bookkeeping team)Coordinate external auditor relationships and complianceOversee banking and borrowing arrangementsImplement and optimise financial systemsProvide strategic financial recommendations to Executive LeadershipOversee AP, AR, Payroll, and Management Accounting functionsHow We WorkWe''re a high-growth distributed company working collaboratively online to deliver exceptional results.
