Through our work we encourage people to examine and change their behaviours for the benefit of the natural world and for the people and places we love.The opportunityAs an Environmental Scientist (or Engineer) for the Water by Design program you will play a pivotal role in advancing water-sensitive urban design and enhancing erosion and sediment control practices throughout Queensland. The role involves coordinating the Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) and Urban Stormwater (USW) Capacity Building Project in the Great Barrier Reef region. Travel throughout the region will be required to organise and deliver capacity building activities to local governments including training workshops and field trips. The desired skill set for the role includes excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills; good knowledge of best practice ESC and/or Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD); and excellent written communication and report writing skills.Your responsibilitiesDeveloping and delivering tailored training programs and workshops for local government staff on water-sensitive urban design and erosion and sediment control practicesCreating and maintaining educational materials including manuals guides and online resources to support ongoing learning and implementation of best practicesAssisting in the development and implementation of policies guidelines and standards that promote sustainable urban water managementConducting site assessments and offering recommendations for improving erosion and sediment control and water sensitive urban design practices in ongoing and upcoming projectsEstablishing and nurturing a community of practice among local government partners to share knowledge experiences and best practices related to urban water management and erosion and sediment controlOrganising and facilitating regular meetings forums capacity building events and collaborative projects to foster engagement and information exchange within the urban stormwater communityBuilding and maintaining strong relationships with government and industry representatives and other key stakeholders to promote collaboration and information sharingProviding expert advice and technical support to government and industry on the application of water-sensitive urban design principles and erosion and sediment control practicesCommunicating effectively with diverse audiences through presentations reports workshops training and other outreach activities to raise awareness and support for urban stormwater management initiativesTracking and reporting on the progress and impact of training programs tool utilisation and capacity building activitiesUndertaking travel throughout Queensland as requiredAbout YouIdeally you will share our vision to lead the change that will deliver an environment for future generations to thrive. To be successful in this role you will have all or many of the following requirements:Tertiary science qualifications in either science or environmental engineering or relevant fieldExtensive experience in related fieldExcellent technical knowledge of WSUD and/or ESCAbility to efficiently write format and review WSUD and/or ESC related materials including reports guidance documents policy reviews and educational products for public distributionAbility to interpret and explain complex scientific processes and results in a manner understandable by general audiencesAbility to confidently present to an audienceExperience in effective Project Management including obtaining and delivering grantsStrong ability to utilize Microsoft Office particularly Excel Access Word and PowerPointHigh level stakeholder engagement skills across landholders government research First Nations and the communityAbility to travel and undertake project delivery to regional areas throughout QueenslandA current manual QLD driving licenceWhat We OfferWere a diverse team of experts who enjoy sharing knowledge and learning.
