You will be trusted with meaningful responsibilities from day one, while being supported by experienced leaders who are invested in your development.During your program, you will work on real projects that make a tangible impact, collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, learn industry best practices through on the job learning and build technical, professional and leadership capabilities.Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Graduate Software Engineer, you will develop foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in systems engineering.Prepare and maintain technical specifications, drawings, and configuration for software integration.Support in design, development, testing, and maintenance, assisting with fault investigation and resolution.Assist with secure design, aligning with cybersecurity policies, standards, and compliance expectations.Ensure adherence to industry standards, rail safety requirements, and regulatory frameworks across software and systems engineering work.Contribute to RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety) outputs and safety cases.Produce clear technical documentation, designs, test plans, operating procedures, and contribute to operational system training.Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams signalling, telecoms, electrical, cyber, and vendors to deliver integrated solutions.Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and team members within the project.Work towards obtaining relevant QR and industry-related competencies.Support project management activities and continuous improvement recommendations.Engage in structured rotations across building depth in rail software systems.Participate in structured graduate development programs including workshops, mentoring, technical training, and site tours.Actively engage in performance development, upskilling, and hands-on learning in real operational environments.Skills and ExperienceRecent completion of a relevant degree (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or Systems Engineering).Less than 2 years of experience.Be curious, proactive and eager to learn about the railway industry.Share our commitment to safety, integrity and continuous improvement.Communicate clearly and work well in diverse teams.We encourage applications from all interested applicants, however we strongly encourage women and people from diverse backgrounds and minority groups to apply, as part of our commitment to build an inclusive workforce and work towards gender equality.At Hitachi Rail, we know that a diverse business is a sustainable business.
