Overview Energy Safe Victoria is the State''s safety regulator for electricity, gas and pipelines, working through education, regulation and enforcement to ensure energy is used safely and confidently by all Victorians. Over recent years, Energy Safe has undertaken a significant uplift in its enforcement posture, strengthening its capability to respond to serious incidents, high-risk non-compliance and matters of public interest. As part of this evolution, a dedicated investigations function was established and now plays a central role in protecting the community and supporting robust regulatory outcomes. With the inaugural Head of Investigations preparing for retirement, Energy Safe is seeking an experienced and capable leader to guide the function into its next phase of maturity and impact. Responsibilities Lead serious investigations that directly impact energy safety in Victoria Shape consistent investigative practice in a growing regulatory team Balance field exposure with leadership, influence and decision-making Consolidate a clear investigations strategy that aligns with regulatory priorities and evolving risk profile Strengthen triage and governance frameworks, embed consistent investigative processes and quality standards Ensure investigations are conducted lawfully, fairly and proportionately Translate investigation outcomes into effective regulatory action and drive continuous improvement in collaboration with policy, legal, technical and enforcement partners Lead a specialist team and provide strategic leadership across investigative practice, intelligence-led triage and enforcement decision-making Support embedding governance and influencing outcomes across the broader business Qualifications and experience This role suits a highly credible investigations or enforcement leader from a regulatory, integrity, justice or comparable environment, with experience in complex regulatory frameworks Direct energy sector experience is not essential; sector-adjacent agencies (e.g., workplace or transport safety, environmental regulation) are welcome, provided you bring strong knowledge of evidentiary standards, administrative law and senior-level decision-making You will be recognised as a collaborative and approachable leader, capable of providing structure, guiding prioritisation and building confidence in enforcement responses in a complex, high-scrutiny and evolving regulatory environment How to view the Success Profile and apply To view the Success Profile for this opportunity, please copy and paste the following link into your browser: To apply, please click ''apply now'' and upload your CV and Cover Letter.
