Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia Advertised by Consensus21 on behalf of the School Board About the Role Consensus21 is supporting the establishment of a new independent K6 school on the Mornington Peninsula. On behalf of the School Board, we are seeking a Founding Principal to lead the school through establishment, registration, and early growth. The school will operate in full compliance with all Victorian education regulations , including the Victorian Curriculum, VRQA Minimum Standards, and Child Safe Standards. Selected elements of the Consensus21 Protocol will inform pedagogy and culture, particularly in relation to student agency, real-world learning, community responsibility, and ethical engagement with technology. This is a rare opportunity to lead a school from first principles while maintaining the highest regulatory and professional standards. Key Responsibilities Educational Leadership Design and implement a K6 learning program aligned with the Victorian Curriculum Lead high-quality, evidence-based teaching and learning practices Support project-based and interdisciplinary learning where appropriate and compliant Establish assessment, reporting, and continuous improvement processes Set clear expectations for student learning, behaviour, and wellbeing Regulatory & Compliance Leadership Lead and maintain compliance with: Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) Minimum Standards Child Safe Standards Disability Standards for Education Occupational Health and Safety requirements Prepare documentation for registration, audits, and reviews Work closely with the School Board to ensure strong governance and risk management Staff & Culture Recruit, induct, and lead teaching and support staff Build a professional culture of trust, accountability, and collaboration Implement effective performance development and feedback processes Support staff wellbeing and professional growth Student Wellbeing & Child Safety Establish a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment Embed child safety as a core responsibility across the school Develop wellbeing and behaviour frameworks aligned with Victorian standards Ensure student voice is valued within clear, age-appropriate structures Community & Partnerships Build strong relationships with families and the local community Represent the school professionally with regulators and external stakeholders Support enrolment growth through clear communication of the schools values and approach Strategic & Operational Leadership Contribute to strategic planning and staged growth of the school Oversee day-to-day operations in collaboration with the School Board Balance educational vision with practical, sustainable implementation Selection Criteria Essential Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration (or eligibility) Demonstrated leadership experience in a primary school setting Strong working knowledge of the Victorian Curriculum and VRQA requirements Proven ability to lead teams, manage change, and build positive school culture Strong commitment to child safety, inclusion, and student wellbeing Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills Desirable Experience establishing or significantly growing a school or program Experience with project-based learning or innovative pedagogies Interest in ethical technology use and digital literacy Alignment with Consensus21 principles while operating fully within regulatory frameworks Personal Attributes Values-driven and student-centred Calm, pragmatic, and systems-minded Comfortable operating in early-stage environments Able to balance innovation with compliance Strong relational leadership style About Consensus21 Consensus21 is an education initiative exploring how ethical frameworks, emerging technologies, and real-world learning can support human flourishing.
