Overview:Part-time 4 days per week Fixed Term position until December 2027Salary HEW 7 Pro rata + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working ArrangementsBased at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the UniversityAbout The PositionThe Disability Transition Officer supports students with disabilities transitioning from secondary education into vocational education at RMIT, providing intensive support during the first 90 days of enrolment, including developing equitable learning plans where required. Working within the Student Equity team in the Students Group and closely with the Equitable Learning and Accessibility team, the role collaborates with students, staff, and secondary schools to promote effective transition practices across the Victorian TAFE network.The position requires interpreting relevant policies and procedures, rapidly building knowledge of RMIT systems, and independently managing a caseload of students with complex needs while prioritising competing demands.To be successful in this position, you''ll have:Demonstrated understanding of the experiences that young people with a disability, mental health and/or medical condition may have during educational and life transitions.Understanding of students with disability navigating increased complexities due to intersectional/ diverse circumstances or a background of traumaDemonstrated ability to develop and deliver information, resources and training to build the capacity of others in support of people with a disability undertaking educational and life transitions.Strong communication skills including written and spoken communication.Strong interpersonal skills especially in the context of engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders with competing priorities.Knowledge of Reasonable Adjustments in the context of tertiary education, the ability to solve problems independently, make decisions, and collaborate when necessary.General awareness of, and familiarity with, the secondary school and Victorian Vocational Education and Training environments, and the capacity to source specialist information from other areas within the RMIT to resolve matters associated with the student''s transition.Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, taking carriage and responsibility of the work required to deliver the accountabilities of the position.Maintain an up-to-date understanding of policies and legislative frameworks pertaining to the rights and responsibilities of individuals identifying as having a disability.Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.About the GroupThe Students Group shapes, designs and delivers key student services and experiences to prepare RMIT students for study, life and the global workforce.We work in partnership with students, academics, professional staff, industry and the community to deliver transformative student experiences that improve access, participation, retention and success for all RMIT students.
