About the Opportunity Were seeking a detailoriented Certification Technical Officer (CTO) to support submarine safety and certification activities at ASC North. In this key role, youll help maintain the integrity of the SUBSAFE boundary, contribute to platform readiness after maintenance periods, and support safe submarine operations across dockings and maintenance availabilities. Reporting to the Certification Technical Officer Manager - SA, youll work closely with personnel across the Submarine Enterprise, performing critical witnessing, safety coordination, test execution, and documentation activities that ensure Australias submarines return to service safely and effectively. Responsibilities Conduct SUBSAFE witnessing activities and sign associated qualitycontrol documentation. Operate the Submarine Safety Control Centre (SSCC) to coordinate safe work on vessels. Perform duties as Platform Safety Coordinator (PSC) and/or Permit Authority. Plan and conduct tests and trials, including installation inspections, harbour and sea acceptance and verification trials. Review, maintain, and update technical and test documentation as required. Act as Material State Officer to support vessel readiness during MATCON periods. Assist with servicing and certification of Submarine Safety and Certification Group (SCG) support equipment. Liaise with internal ASC personnel and customers to manage documentation, coordinate tests, and maintain submarine safety standards. About you Tradequalified with at least 5 years experience in a maritime, naval, or dockyard environment. Strong engineering knowledge of ship or submarine systems and equipment. Minimum 5 years experience with Collins Class submarines. Understanding of defence industry practices and submarine operations, especially in system, equipment, and personnel safety. Skilled in interpreting technical requirements and navigating safetycritical work environments. Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with stakeholders at all levels. Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of maintaining accurate technical records. Demonstrated strengths in teamwork, initiative, time management, decisionmaking, and customer service. This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
