About us The Emergency Department is a dynamic workplace which treats both Adult and Paediatric populations. It is made up of 25 acute patient treatment areas, 3 resuscitation bays, triage, and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) assessment areas, and a FastTrack area which treats less acute presentations. The department sees on average 140 patients per 24hour period, managing a vast range of clinical presentations, and works with patients from culturally diverse backgrounds. About the role The Emergency Department Administration Officer contributes to patient safety and patient flow by performing a skilled reception and customer service role to patients and visitors attending the Emergency Department. Responsibilities Attend to presenting patients, family members, general public, police and ambulance by undertaking standard Emergency Department Administration duties, and/or directing to appropriate treatment or assistance where required. Respond to general reception enquiries for the department by answering all incoming telephone calls and ensuring accurate and timely transfer of messages and information to support patients and staff. Perform an administrative support role to medical and nursing staff within the department by assisting with the preparation and completion of a range of administrative duties. Consult with patients, carers and clinical staff to obtain correct details for completion of admissions and record information accurately and efficiently into the hospital information systems. About you Exercise judgement and initiative to resolve immediate problems in situations where precedents have not been established and procedures have not been defined, ensuring a satisfactory outcome is achieved. Proven ability to act as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team in a highly dynamic environment to deliver high quality services to clients. Demonstrated understanding of privacy and confidentiality principles and how these apply to the role of the Emergency Department administration Officer role. Welldeveloped communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and sensitively with all levels of staff, patients and the general public. Ability to respond effectively and immediately in emergency situations by following internal procedures and protocols.
