About the organisation The Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance (AUSMASA) is an independent, industry-led organisation dedicated to strengthening and transforming vocational education and training (VET) delivery across the mining and automotive sectors. Designated by the Federal Government as the Mining and Automotive Jobs and Skills Council (JSC), AUSMASA plays a central role in ensuring Australias VET system is trusted by employers, responsive to evolving technologies, and capable of meeting current and future workforce demands. About the role AUSMASA has created the position of First Nations Engagement Manager to strengthen relationships with First Nations communities, organisations and representative bodies across the mining, automotive and skills sectors. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Industry Partnerships and Stewardship, this is a senior, standalone role with organisation-wide influence. The position works closely with the Executive Director and across all functions of the business, with exposure to the CEO and broader leadership team. The role leads culturally informed consultation and engagement activities, ensuring First Nations perspectives are meaningfully embedded across AUSMASAs policy advice, workforce initiatives and industry engagement work. This is a high-trust, high-impact position requiring credibility, cultural capability, and the ability to navigate complex government and industry environments. The role involves regular travel and operates in a fast-paced setting where federal government timelines and policy cycles can be demanding. About you You are a culturally grounded, senior engagement leader with strong community connections and the ability to operate confidently across government and industry environments. You bring demonstrated experience in policy development and government processes, alongside proven capability managing complex and sensitive stakeholder relationships. You are practical, relationship-led and collaborative in your approach. You thrive in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities and can work autonomously while maintaining strong cross-team alignment. Experience or knowledge of the mining, automotive, skills or workforce development sectors will be highly regarded. You are deeply committed to diversity, inclusion and culturally safe workplaces. Selection Criteria Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander with strong community connections. Proven ability managing complex stakeholder relationships across community, industry and government. Experience working with government policy, regulatory frameworks and accountability processes. Demonstrated experience leading culturally informed consultation and engagement initiatives. Ability to exercise sound judgement in sensitive, high-profile environments.
