This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative, high-impact projects that support Fortescues Real Zero target and accelerate the advancement of decarbonisation technologies. Overview Senior Control Systems Engineer responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of control systems for Megawatt Fast Chargers, including PLC, robotics, machine vision, safety logic, and HMI systems, within a multidisciplinary team to support decarbonisation initiatives. Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and delivery of control systems for Megawatt Fast Chargers, including PLC, robotics, machine vision, safety logic, and HMI systems Develop control system specifications, interface documents, and test procedures Define control system software architecture and establish best practices for PLC implementation Collaborate within multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery, including drawing reviews, design reviews and HAZID/HAZOP workshops Lead control systems Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) with the commissioning team to enable smooth site handover Implement and continuously improve controls engineering processes Troubleshoot control software and electrical systems across test benches and test rigs Manage control software configuration, versioning, and release processes Occasional/short-term site travel for commissioning as required Qualifications Bachelors degree in electrical, Control Systems, or Mechatronics Engineering 10+ years experience in control systems development, including PLC and SCADA/HMI programming, testing, and commissioning Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g. Profinet, Modbus TCP, OPC-UA, MQTT, CAN, GOOSE) Experience with Siemens PLC and TIA Portal (highly advantageous) Experience with Ignition SCADA/HMI (highly advantageous) Experience with SEL Relay and RTAC configuration (highly advantageous) TV or Exida Functional Safety qualification (highly advantageous) Experience in power systems, BESS, and inverter technologies (highly advantageous) Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and within multidisciplinary teams Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment with evolving program requirements Our Commitment Fortescue is deeply committed to providing a safe culture that builds respect, fosters inclusiveness, and values diversity.
