Mesothelioma and Dust Diseases Australia (MADDA) is seeking qualified Nurses to join our team and coordinate our Specialist Support Services.This role provides a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of people affected by asbestos-related diseases, especially the terminal cancer mesothelioma, through a patient-focused, specialist support service.About the RoleThis role is central to developing and delivering a structured patient journey for those affected by mesothelioma, with the opportunity to shape resources and programs that directly improve the patient experience.Key responsibilities include:Provide direct patient and caregiver support, including counselling, care navigation and advocacy.Help patients and families come to terms with the diagnosis and guide them on what to expect on the journey ahead.Work closely with medical professionals (respiratory physicians and oncology nurses) to help ensure consistent patient care and to bridge the gaps between acute and community services.Signpost patients/caregivers to available community services to help maintain best possible quality of life.Receive, assess and respond to new patient referrals in a timely manner.Plan, coordinate, and facilitate quarterly peer support groups for patients/caregivers and bereaved families.Contribute to educational resources to help guide clients through the mesothelioma journey.Build and maintain relationships with medical specialists, service providers and other stakeholders.Stay informed of developments in the asbestos-related diseases support sector and maintain connections with relevant affiliates and resource providers as needed.These are handson, patientfocused roles offering the chance to make a meaningful impact on the quality of life for those with terminal illness.
