The Animal Hospital is a well-established, privately owned, well equipped and staffed practice in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Western Australia. We are currently seeking an experienced veterinarian for a full-time position.At least one year of work experience is required. Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) qualification and be registered with the Veterinary Practice Board of Western Australia. The salary range is from $96,000 to $160,000 (depending on experience) plus Superannuation. Relocation/Visa assistance of up to $10,000 is also offered. Generous afterhours commissions are paid (50% of all professional fees charged for work done after hours).The practice is mainly small animal with some wildlife work; some proficiency with equine is an advantage as may be required after hours.ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant will be responsible for determining the presence and nature of abnormal conditions by physical examination, laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging.The applicant will be required to treat patients medically and surgically, administer and prescribe drugs, analgesics and administer general and local anaesthetics.They will be responsible for preventative health care, advising clients on parasite treatment, nutrition and feeding and administering vaccinations.We have inhouse laboratory testing and access to external laboratory testing. Diagnostic imaging includes both radiology and ultrasound.Practice and TeamThe practice is equipped with a large range of equipment including digital x-ray (Zoomax x-ray machine), Mindray ultrasound, in-house Vetscan blood machines, DrVet laser therapy machine, IM3 GS Deluxe dental machine, Hot Dog Warming System for patients in surgery and Mistral Forced Air Warming for those in recovery and hospital, Niki V4 Infusion Pumps, syringe pumps and a wide range of anaesthetic monitoring equipment. For those interested in equine we have an Edge power float and an equipped vehicle. Our practice has 8 veterinarians with a combination of over 40 years clinical experience, 7 of whom are full time working four 910-hour weekdays and rostered weekends.There are 7 qualified veterinary nurses, including one technician, who are very capable. They have many duties including taking blood samples, running laboratory machines, monitoring anaesthesia with the assistance of 3 trainee nurses and 3 trainee animal attendants and a kennel hand. There are 5 dedicated receptionists working in the practice.Work Environment and ScheduleA comfortable work-to-life balance is important to us. Successful applicants will be well supported both during the transition period and beyond, informally and with periodic reviews as required. We encourage discussion of cases and help with case management where required.Our opening hours are from 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday and Saturday from 8 am to 12 noon. After hours are from 6 pm to 8 pm weekday evenings, 12 noon to 8 pm Saturday and 8 am to 8 pm Sundays and Public Holidays with a 1 in 5 roster. A veterinary nurse is also rostered on for after hour assistance.The practice is mainly small animal. We also see a range of wildlife with us having an affiliation with a local wildlife rescue group.Location and CommunityKalgoorlie-Boulder is a small vibrant city (population 30 000) with a welcoming and inclusive community located in the southern goldfields of Western Australia where we enjoy a mediterranean climate. It is surrounded by the Great Western Woodlands. The woodlands offer many opportunities for outdoor adventures including camping, gold prospecting, motorbike trails and hiking. There are also entertainment options within and surrounding the city with restaurants, bars and cafes. There are facilities including a 50m indoor pool, gyms, arts centre venues, a golf course, museums and family-friendly parks.There is also a lively horse racing industry in Kalgoorlie with regular winter race meetings. The annual race round is a state-wide attraction with visitors from around the region. The city hosts numerous sporting clubs and community activities, with education options including primary, high schools, a TAFE and a Curtin University branch.There is a large faith-based community with over 15 churches and a mosque. Mining is the main industry with related service industries. The mining industry and local council sponsor a range of free community events, including concerts.It is a 4-hour drive to Esperance and a 6-hour drive to Perth.
