Darwin Community Legal Service (DCLS)Darwin NT | Disability AdvocacyPart-time 3 days per weekSCHADS Level 5 + Salary PackagingDo you want to stand beside people with disability when systems fail them?Darwin Community Legal Service is looking for an NDIS Appeals Advocate to help Territorians challenge unfair decisions made by the National Disability Insurance Agency.In this role you will support people with disability to understand their rights, challenge decisions, and access the supports they need to live independently and with dignity.This is a part-time role (3 days per week) working in a passionate team committed to fairness, inclusion, and human rights.Why join DCLS?Darwin Community Legal Service has supported the NT community for over 30 years, providing free legal advice and advocacy across disability rights, tenancy, seniors rights and general legal matters.When you join our team you will receive:Meaningful work that supports people with disabilityA supportive multidisciplinary team of advocates and lawyersSCHADS Level 5 salary above awardSalary packaging to increase your take-home pay6 weeks annual leave (pro-rata)Flexible work arrangements and time in lieuOpportunities to travel and support communities across the NTAbout the roleThe NDIS Appeals Advocate supports people with disability to challenge decisions made by the NDIA.You will assist clients to navigate the review process and ensure they have the evidence and support needed to access reasonable and necessary supports under the NDIS.Your work will include:Supporting clients to challenge NDIA decisions about access, plans and fundingAssisting clients to request NDIA Internal ReviewsSupporting applications to the Administrative Review TribunalHelping clients gather medical and functional evidencePreparing written advocacy material and submissionsLiaising with NDIA staff, lawyers and health professionalsSupporting clients to participate in case conferences and hearingsContributing to community education about NDIS review and appeal rightsIdentifying systemic issues affecting people with disabilityYou will also work closely with other advocates and lawyers to ensure clients receive coordinated support.About youYou are passionate about social justice and disability rights and enjoy helping people navigate complex systems.You may have experience in advocacy, community services, disability support, legal assistance or government programs.We are looking for someone with:Experience supporting people through complaints, reviews or appeals processesStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to prepare written advocacy material or submissionsAbility to manage competing priorities and deadlinesConfidence working with government agencies and professionalsStrong organisational and teamwork skillsExperience with the NDIS or Administrative Review Tribunal processes will be highly regarded.A current NT drivers licence and willingness to travel in the NT is required.Apply now - ***********@dcls.org.auSubmit your resume and a cover letter addressing the selection criteria.DCLS is committed to inclusion and strongly encourages applications from people with disability and people with lived experience of disability.For more information contact Leisa Bagley 08 8982 1***If you want to use your skills to support people with disability and challenge unfair decisions, we encourage you to apply.Position Description on the DCLS websiteBe careful - Dont provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs.
