Job Description

Overview The Business Manager is responsible for implementing the vision, mission and strategic priorities of Wycliffe Christian School and Wycliffe Hope School into effective and efficient operational strategies. They are called to exhibit wise, servant-hearted leadership and outwork their faith in every interaction with the community. Position Business Manager Reporting to Principal Agreement & classification: Non-award. Remuneration determined with reference to skills and experience Status Full-time The Wycliffe learning community has been partnering with families in the Christian education of their children for 50 years. Wycliffe Christian School and Wycliffe Hope School are independent and nondenominational schools providing a quality and engaging education delivered through a distinctly biblical worldview. The school grounds are nestled amongst natural bushland in the lower Blue Mountains and provide a wonderful setting for students from Preschool to Year 12. In 2026 Wycliffe Christian School has 614 students enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 12, 47 students in its Preschool, and 35 students in the specialist Wycliffe Hope School. Wycliffe seeks to empower parents in their God-given responsibility for the upbringing and education of their children. The school recognises the vital role of parents in the educational process, and prides itself on the strength of its partnership with home. Wycliffe is committed to the provision of an affordable Christian education, and as such, the Business Manager is required to exercise leadership and wisdom in the way the school provides this education in partnership with parents. The Business Manager is with the Principal responsible for the financial and operational aspects of the schools strategic, financial and property plans. The Business Manager serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible to the Principal. This role reports to the School Board through the Principal regarding all financial, human resources, facilities, information technology and administrative aspects of school operations. This role assumes a high level of managerial expertise and is required to exercise a significant level of leadership, including the ability to consult, delegate, analyse and plan within the school community. The Business Manager represents the Wycliffe learning community to a range of external stakeholders and is responsible for ensuring that the administration of the school is consistent with its biblical worldview. The Business Manager oversees budget preparation and financial management by collaborating closely with the Principal, Board Treasurer, and Finance Committee. They are responsible for integrating advice into financial strategies and providing the Board with accurate, timely data to ensure full accountability. Key responsibilities Deliver robust financial oversight to ensure that short and long-term strategic goals are realised Provision of regular financial and operational reporting to the Principal and to the Board Supervision and development of finance team members to ensure the integrity of all financial and administrative records In partnership with the Property Manager, lead the enhancement of school facilities, including oversight of capital works, insurance and maintenance priorities Manage the preparation and submission of statistical and financial returns for regulatory bodies Maintain key banking relationships, including reporting and secure funding for upcoming capital projects In consultation with the Principal, Board and relevant stakeholders, lead the development and implementation of school-wide policies to ensure compliance requirements are met Collaborate with the Principal and Communications team to develop marketing and enrolment plans that align with the schools vision Effective management and ongoing development of the schools human resources functions including industrial agreements, payroll, staff contracts etc. In partnership with the School Fee Assistant, proactively manage fee collections, including provision of bursaries and fee assistance where appropriate Serve as Company Secretary for The John Wycliffe Christian Education Association Limited and Wycliffe Hope School Limited, including oversight of all school and ACNC governance requirements Leadership Expectations Leaders at Wycliffe Christian School are given the authority and responsibility of shaping the life of our learning community by applying the gospel values contained in the schools vision statement to the relationships, structures, goals, activities and conversations that form the daily life of the school. Selection criteria To excel in this role, the successful candidate will possess a blend of high-level financial expertise and organisational leadership skills. Essential skills/qualifications A committed and active relationship with Jesus Christ, evidenced by regular attendance and service within a local church community A degree in Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field Extensive experience in budget preparation, financial reporting and overall financial management Proven track record of supervising and developing finance and administrative staff Experience collaborating with senior leadership teams or boards to align financial resources with long-term strategic goals Practical knowledge of payroll systems, industrial agreements, staff contracts and regulatory reporting Outstanding organisational skills, attention to detail, flexibility and the ability to multitask in a dynamic school environment Ability to engage with a range of stakeholders in a warm, generous and engaging fashion A willingness to engage in a variety of tasks and responsibilities Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team and work independently as required Ability to handle community information with discretion and confidentiality A current Working With Children Check Desirable skills/qualifications Membership (or eligibility for membership) of a professional accounting body Experience in a school setting For further information, please contact Mr. David Johnston (Principal) on (02) 4753 6422 for a confidential discussion.
