About the RoleAn opportunity exists for an experienced Health & Safety Principal to lead and influence safety outcomes across complex, highrisk project environments. This senior role is responsible for establishing, embedding and continuously improving health and safety systems across construction, commissioning and early operations phases. You will act as the senior H&S lead, partnering closely with engineering, project delivery, operations and contracting partners to ensure regulatory compliance, critical risk control effectiveness and strong safety culture across all phases of work.This role is well suited to a safety leader with deep experience in process safety, critical risk management and major hazard environments.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and implement the project Health & Safety strategy in alignment with organisational standards and legislative requirementsProvide expert advice to senior leaders on health and safety risks, controls, resourcing and performanceAct as a subject matter expert in critical risk management, process safety and serious injury/fatality preventionDevelop and govern operational risk registers and critical control frameworksLead and participate in HAZID, HAZOP, Bowtie and LOPA studies, ensuring actions are closed effectivelyImplement and oversee critical control verification and assurance programsEmbed H&S requirements into engineering design, procurement activities and contractor scopesReview and assure safetycritical deliverables including hazardous areas, safeguarding, traffic interaction and highrisk work controlsSupport commissioning and operational readiness activities, including prestartup safety reviewsMaintain strong site presence across construction and commissioning activitiesReview and assure incident investigations using ICAM or equivalent methodologiesEnsure contractor H&S plans, JHAs, SWMS and permit systems meet required standardsLead regulatory engagement, audits and compliance activitiesDrive continuous improvement initiatives across safety systems, reporting and workforce engagementAbout YouYou are a confident, credible safety leader with the ability to influence across senior and operational levels. You bring a practical, solutionsfocused approach and are comfortable operating in complex, highrisk environments.Key Experience & Capability10+ years experience in Health & Safety within mining, energy, chemicals or heavy process industriesStrong background in process safety and critical risk managementDemonstrated experience in highrisk construction and commissioning environmentsExperience with major hazard facilities, dangerous goods and gas environmentsProven ability to lead assurance programs and complex risk assessmentsStrong stakeholder engagement and contractor management capabilityQualifications & CertificationsTertiary qualification in Workplace Health & Safety, Engineering or Process SafetyStrong working knowledge of WHS and Mine Safety legislationLead Investigator (ICAM or equivalent)WHS Management Systems Internal Auditor qualificationProject or operational readiness experience highly regardedCurrent C Class Drivers LicenceWhy ApplyThis is a senior, influential role offering exposure to complex project environments and the opportunity to shape safety outcomes at a strategic level.
