Primary objectiveAssist with the collection, processing, management and dissemination of groundwater and surface water data and information products for the sustainable management of the Territorys Water Resources. Context statementThis role supports senior officers in the delivery of surface water and groundwater monitoring programs and datasets that meet the objectives and priorities of the Division. Key duties and responsibilitiesAssist with the operation and maintenance of a hydrometric data collection network including repair/replacement and upgrade of hydrometric equipment, structures, instrumentation and telemetry systems.Undertake field data collection activities, including working in, on and near water bodies including flood waters, often in remote, hard to access places.Process and edit field data to a quality assured standard in a timely and efficient manner.Prepare documentation, instrumentation, equipment and vehicles prior to and on completion of field trips.Develop knowledge of monitoring programs, technology and hydrological processes at monitoring sites. Selection criteriaEssentialExperience working in the water industry in fields including hydrography, water quality sampling and groundwater monitoring with a commitment to undertaking internal and external training to develop skills.Experienced in the use of computers including the Microsoft Office suite with the demonstrated ability to learn and use software associated with water monitoring and telemetry equipment.Demonstrated experience in operating safely and effectively in remote and hazardous locations and have the ability to resolve technical issues with limited resources.Experienced in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools, all-terrain vehicles, small boats, and industry-specific instrumentation.Physically fit and able to undertake physically demanding work in tough conditions.Good communication skills with the ability to collaborate and work in a small team.Hold a current NT drivers licence or the ability to obtain.Ability to obtain a Northern Territory firearms licence and a Grade 3 (or higher) Coxswains licence.DesirableExperience in hydrography and/or water sampling. Further informationThis role requires extensive remote travel, working and camping away from home for up to three weeks at a time and working outside normal hours.
