Overview Australian Department of Veterans'' Affairs Perth WA The Director, Data and AI Governance is a leadership role within the Data and Insights Branch. Data and analytics and the insights they provide are important to the way DVA provides services to veterans and their families. From ad-hoc requests for specific information to inform reporting and policy development, to cutting edge modelling to predict future trends, volume, costs, and program efficacy - data is increasingly central to everything we do. The purpose of the Data and Insights Branch is to evolve the way the Department produces and uses data, analytics and research, to underpin evidence-based policy development, service delivery and wellbeing outcomes. The branch fosters a culture of curiosity in data and research, establishing processes that enable the Department to better understand and serve the needs of veterans and families of veterans. Key duties The key duties of the position include: Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of DVAs enterprise data and AI governance policies, frameworks and strategies, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and whole of government data and AI requirements. Provide high level strategic advice, briefings and guidance to senior executives and governance committees on data and AI governance, emerging risks, and responsible use of data and AI across DVA. Lead and manage a geographically dispersed team to deliver timely, accurate and high quality data and AI governance outcomes, providing clear direction, fostering collaboration, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring staff understand expectations and are accountable for delivery. Oversee DVAs data stewardship, data lifecycle management and AI governance and assurance activities, including the AI Impact Assessment process, to ensure data well managed, high quality, fit for purpose and used responsibly. Oversee governance of DVA data sharing arrangements, MOUs and access frameworks to ensure compliance with legislative, policy, privacy, security and records management obligations. Lead data related risk management activities, including identifying, assessing and documenting risks, and supporting the development of mitigation strategies and contingency plans. Collaborate with the Assistant Secretary, directors and branch colleagues to apply whole of government data and AI policies and frameworks, support delivery of key business outcomes, and uplift data and AI literacy and responsible practices across DVA. Represent DVA in whole of government data and AI governance forums and contribute to cross agency initiatives requiring coordinated policy and governance alignment. Eligibility Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS). Any successful candidate external to DVA offered employment will be required to undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements. Any successful candidate will also be required to obtain and/or maintain, a baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance as a minimum.
