Senior Legal Counsel / Legal Counsel - Payments Join the legal team supporting Payments and Everyday Business Banking at CommBank. We are a team of highly skilled lawyers supporting a range of different products and stakeholders with humour and humility. Collaboration is key to our teams success. We benefit from a strong support base and a wealth of expertise as part of CommBanks large in-house legal function. We also rely on panel firm providers to assist with most individual banking transactions so that we can focus on more strategic, high value assistance to the business. Do work that matters We are looking for a lawyer with existing financial services regulatory (FSR) expertise who is interested in developing new skills in payments, platforms and networks. You will provide strategic, practical legal advice and have high level analytical and critical legal decisionmaking capabilities to assist CommBank in attaining strategic goals in a safe and customerfocussed way. The work is varied and may include assisting with: regulatory matters including breach advices and responses to regulator requests, and regulatory change (including due to industry or scheme mandate) new product and service innovation and enhancements, including as-a-service offerings through APIs and AI functionality contractual negotiations with referrers, intermediaries, brokers, service providers, agents or other entities within the payments ecosystem general banking and financial services advice and project or product migration work terms for standard form or bespoke (for large institutional clients) customer contracts identifying opportunities to simplify relevant frameworks, policies and processes to optimise effectiveness and efficiency Were interested in hearing from people who have: Tertiary qualifications in law and 5+ years* relevant post admission / qualification experience (PAE) Ideally at least 4 years experience in private practice Excellent technical legal skills including the ability to quickly grasp, negotiate and resolve issues in complex matters and a willingness to continue to grow and expand your expertise Sound knowledge of Australian financial services laws and current issues applying to banking (eg deposit accounts)_ The ability to draft, negotiate, and drive to completion complex commercial agreements that achieve business objectives, and continue to support those business relationships once consummated The capacity to build excellent relationships with a range of stakeholders and the ability to clearly communicate complex issues A team-oriented outlook, a sense of humour, unquestioned ethics and integrity, sound judgment and humility An interest in learning about new practice areas and products rather than focusing on a particular area of law Interest in payments, platforms and networks. *We are interested in the right mindset and aptitude.
