Primary objective Provide specialist advice to schools, communities, industry and VET providers on the development, implementation and ongoing improvement of accredited VET programs in Territory schools, ensuring national standards are maintained and future workforce needs are prioritised. Context statement The Skills NT work unit is responsible for building a skilled and capable Northern Territory workforce by providing leadership, resources and strategic oversight of vocational education and training (VET). As the Northern Territorys state training authority, Skills NT provides stewardship of the national VET framework, system, and apprenticeships, ensuring they are effectively implemented to meet local needs. Through strong partnerships with industry, community organisations and registered training organisations, Skills NT supports access to highquality training that leads to meaningful employment outcomes and responds to current and future workforce demand across the Territory. Key duties and responsibilities Manage and coordinate staff, including regionally based staff to ensure a high quality and equitable service is provided to schools and other relevant stakeholders. Implement strategies and targets in line with agreed NT and national targets relevant to the client cohort. Contemporary leadership and management skills including business planning, projects, human resources, finance, contract and budgeting. High level ability to collate and present data and information that can be used to inform business policy responses and strategies. Broker and maintain collective partnerships and strategic alliances with industry and training providers, school principals and other relevant stakeholders, and promote employment pathways for students and facilitate the introduction of new initiatives in relation to VET. Develop and implement policy, system wide professional support and advice relevant to the delivery of vocational pathways and supporting programs to meet student and school needs. Selection criteria Essential Demonstrated ability to manage policies and processes, procurement, finance, human resources and record management. Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning processes and ongoing reporting against planning. Highly developed understanding and knowledge of the vocational education and training sector, including local industry, key players and current issues driving workforce planning. Understanding and knowledge of sound governance frameworks and methods for developing cost effective office policies and procedures. Understanding of the structure of government and government processes including the critical elements involved in the preparation of high-level briefings and complex reports to the portfolio Minister, Cabinet and parliamentary committees. A working knowledge of computer, electronic media, and software package applications including MS Office word processing. Desirable Tertiary qualification in education or a field relevant to the key responsibilities of the position.
