Job Description

The Adelaide University (AU), Animal Ethics Committees (AECs) are currently seeking Category C and Category D members to join its committees. Members primarily serve one of AU''s three AECs. Please read the required description for further details on the role criteria. Volunteers must be willing and available to attend approximately eight (8) AECs meetings per year which are held on Thursdays between 10am-3pm. Pre reading is required in preparation for meetings (approximately 3-4 hours per month). Volunteers are appointed for an initial 3-year term. Requirements Category C Member A person with demonstrable commitment to, and established experience in, furthering the welfare of animals. Must not have an existing affiliation with Adelaide University and must not be currently involved in the care and use of animals for scientific purposes. Active membership of, and endorsement by, an animal welfare organisation (without formally representing the organisation) is desirable. Category D Member A person who can be viewed by the wider community as bringing a completely independent view to the committee. Must not have an existing affiliation with Adelaide University and must have never been involved in the care and use of animals for scientific purposes, either in their employment or beyond their undergraduate education. Cannot fit the requirements of any other prescribed category of membership under the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes (8th Edition). Training and reimbursement An honorarium is paid for each meeting attended in recognition of the time given and any out-of-pocket expenses incurred. On the job training is provided. #J-18808-Ljbffr
