Ward Clerk Permanent Part-Time role available 24 hours per week. Mansfield District Hospital Mansfield District Hospital (MDH) is seeking a motivated and compassionate Ward Clerk to join our Team. This role is integral to the smooth operation of the ward, providing high-quality administrative support to nursing and clinical staff while ensuring a positive experience for patients, families and stakeholders. About the Role As a Ward Clerk, you will support the preparation and documentation of patient admissions and discharges, manage medical records, and provide general ward administration. You will work closely with the nursing, clinical management and health information teams, often in a fast-paced environment where strong organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously are essential. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to customer service, with strict adherence to privacy and confidentiality requirements at all times. Key Responsibilities Liaise with the Health Information Manager (HIM) and Clinical Coders Manage patient admissions and discharges at Mansfield District Hospital Complete daily bed returns Prepare documentation for theatre and midwifery bookings as required Provide reception and administration support at the Nurses Station and Urgent Care Centre Maintain accurate medical records for all admissions and Urgent Care Centre attendances Organise follow-up appointments for discharged patients Ensure a high level of accuracy and literacy in the production and management of documentation Identify system deficiencies and errors to improve accuracy and efficiency in health information management Deliver compassionate, respectful and professional customer service to all MDH consumers, staff and stakeholders Participate in unit staff meetings and contribute ideas for service improvement Maintain and update skills and knowledge relevant to the role All staff are responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality health services and for maintaining an understanding of theNational Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHSS) and Aged Care Quality Standards relevant to their position. Essential Criteria Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to provide courteous and professional customer service, with strict adherence to privacy and confidentiality Prior experience in office administration with a high level of accuracy and literacy Ability to work under pressure and manage a high volume of documentation Strong organisational skills and self-motivation, with the ability to work unsupervised or as part of a team Compassionate and professional presentation when dealing with patients and families Flexibility within an office environment and a commitment to continuous improvement Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications Ability to operate electronic and manual office equipment in accordance with OH&S guidelines Ability to identify system issues and liaise effectively with the Health Information Manager Demonstrated commitment to the organisations values Evidence of required influenza vaccination Desirable Criteria Previous experience in the health or medical sector, including knowledge of medical terminology Why Join MDH?
