The team ensures high quality outputs that are transparent, defensible, and able to withstand external scrutiny. We are expanding as our role evolves into the regulatory setting and we need more curious, detail oriented and adaptable staff. The Regulatory Division administers Part XX of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 and Part VIIA of the Referendum (Machinery Provisions) Act 1984. Our core responsibilities include: n Providing education and advice to individuals and entities with disclosure obligations to support voluntary compliance. n Collecting and publishing financial disclosure returns submitted by registered political parties, significant third parties, third parties, associated entities, and nominated entities. n Conducting compliance reviews of financial disclosure returns to ensure accuracy and adherence to legislative requirements. n Undertaking investigations where contraventions of the Electoral Act or Electoral Legislation Amendment (Election Reform) Act may have occurred and implementing appropriate enforcement actions. n Administering public funding to eligible candidates and registered political parties. The Opportunities The AEC is seeking collaborative, curious and self-motivated team members who are committed to achieving results. The Regulatory Division is expanding and multiple APS 4 opportunities are available across two work streams: disclosure and compliance. As an APS4 team member, you will work under general direction as part of a supportive team. You will contribute to work that protects the integrity of Australias electoral funding and political donation system and directly contribute to public trust in the electoral process. This is an opportunity to build your skills in analysis, problem solving and regulatory work while supporting a national purpose. In the Assistant Disclosure Officer role, you will assist with the following activities: n Overseeing the financial disclosure process to ensure the AEC meets its obligations under Part XX of the Electoral Act, as well as under the Referendum Act when a referendum is conducted. n Providing guidance to participants on their disclosure obligations, including assisting agents, candidates, and Senate groups and other political participants across the election cycle. n Drafting clear and accurate correspondence for political entities and other participants to promote awareness and compliance with their legislative obligations. n Interpreting and applying legislation, including the Electoral Act and the Referendum Act, to support disclosure, compliance activities and decisionmaking. n Supporting administrative tasks, including responding to participant enquiries in accordance with established processes In the Assistant Compliance Officer role, you will assist with the following activities: n Reviewing financial disclosure returns submitted by a range of political participants to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with legislative requirements. n Assessing and reviewing claims for election funding and undertaking routine assessments as needed to determine compliance with Part XX of the Electoral Act. n Administering the payment of election funding to eligible political parties and candidates in accordance with legislative requirements. n Supporting administrative tasks, including responding to consumer enquiries in accordance with established processes. Formal qualifications, or relevant work experience or study, in accounting, commerce, finance or related fields is highly desirable for Assistant Compliance Officer roles.
