The Disclosure and Compliance section sits within the Regulatory Division and supports the AEC by coordinating political financial disclosure activities, as well as planning and delivering compliance reviews and investigations related to financial disclosures. The team ensures high quality outputs that are transparent, defensible, and able to withstand external scrutiny. We are expanding our role in the regulatory environment, and we need more curious, detail oriented and adaptable staff. The Regulatory Division administers Part XX of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 and Part VIIA of the Referendum (Machinery Provisions) Act 1984. Our core responsibilities include: Providing education and advice to individuals and entities with disclosure obligations to support voluntary compliance. Collecting and publishing financial disclosure returns submitted by registered political parties, associated entities, significant third parties, third parties and nominated entities. Conducting compliance reviews of financial disclosure returns to ensure accuracy and adherence to legislative requirements. Undertaking investigations where contraventions of the Electoral Act or Electoral Reform Act may have occurred and implementing appropriate enforcement actions. Administering public funding to eligible candidates, Senate groups, and registered political parties. Senior Investigations Officer Apply a riskbased approach to conducting investigations into potential antiavoidance schemes under the Electoral Act and the Referendum Act. Use data and intelligence tools to draw insights which proactively identify highrisk behaviours, entities, and schemes, supporting further compliance action and contributing to the development of targeted compliance strategies. Prepare highquality briefs, reports, and correspondence to inform decisionmakers and contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of policies and procedures related to electoral funding and disclosure. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to junior staff as required, fostering capability development and highquality outcomes. A Certificate IV in Government Investigations (PSP40416), or the willingness to undertake this qualification with AEC support, is highly desirable for the Senior Investigations Officer roles. Senior Compliance Officer Independently review financial disclosure returns submitted by a range of political participants to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with legislative requirements Assess and review procedures on claims for election funding across the electoral cycle, including undertaking complex compliance assessments in accordance with the Electoral Act. Oversee and coordinate the accurate processing and payment of election funding to eligible political parties and candidates, ensuring all payments are delivered in line with legislative and procedural obligations. Lead the collection and analysis of information from diverse sources to support a riskbased approach to identifying and investigating potential noncompliance, including risks of foreign influence through financial contributions. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to junior staff as required, fostering capability development and highquality outcomes. Formal qualifications, or relevant work experience, in accounting, commerce, finance or related fields is highly desirable for Senior Compliance Officer roles. Senior Disclosure Officer Assist in managing the financial disclosure process to ensure the AEC meets its obligations under Part XX of the Electoral Act and, when required, under the Referendum Act. Guide participants in understanding and meeting their disclosure obligations, including providing guidance to agents, candidates, and Senate groups and other political participants across the election cycle. Draft clear, accurate, and wellstructured correspondence for political entities and other participants to promote awareness and compliance with legislative requirements. Interpret and apply complex legislation, including the Electoral Act and the Referendum Act, to support disclosure, compliance activities, and informed decisionmaking. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to junior staff as required, fostering capability development and highquality outcomes. To excel youll have: Demonstrated experience in supporting or leading financial audits (or similar assurance activities), with strong organisational skills and a proven ability to manage tasks methodically, accurately, and in accordance with procedures. Welldeveloped analytical skills with the ability to interpret moderately complex information, identify issues or risks, and provide timely, accurate, and wellinformed advice to support decisionmaking processes. Willingness to be flexible and adaptable as the section responds to the requirements of the legislative changes and guide junior staff as we navigate our reform journey. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively within teams and across business areas, and to build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
