South Australia Police Job reference: 837975 Location: 5000 - ADELAIDE Job status: Short Term Contract Eligibility: Open to Everyone MAJOR INDICTABLE CHARGE ADVICE TEAM (MICAT) Term full-time vacancy up to 26/2/2027. Prosecution Services Branch (PSB) is responsible for the delivery of the prosecution function for SAPOL contributing to the Corporate Business Plan Program 2. Crime and criminal justice services by providing an effective criminal justice service. The Senior Legal Officer leads and directs research and analysis, and the preparation of high level legal documentation, advice and policy of a complex or politically sensitive nature of strategic impact to SAPOL. Officers may be required to lead, manage and deliver prosecution services for complex, specialised or politically sensitive summary, minor and major indictable offences including adjudication, negotiation and advocacy and representing SAPOL. The Senior Legal Officer will support the Major Indictable Charge Advice Team, a joint trial venture between the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and SAPOL, utilising the services of ODPP in the major Indictable pre-committal space and creating efficiencies for ODPP, SAPOL and the Courts Administration Authority. The incumbent will provide support and advice to prosecutors involved in the adjudication, file preparation and charge determination functions in the Major Indictable Brief Unit including liaising with the prosecutors of the ODPP. The Senior Legal Officer may have management responsibilities (as established or instructed by the Officer in Charge Prosecution Services Branch through consultation and agreement) and is expected to operate within broad policy or SAPOL guidelines and with professional independence and judgement to undertake and manage or independently lead a wide variety of the more difficult legal work handled by the Branch. The incumbent is also responsible for the development, health and safety of all staff under their control and for maintaining a discrimination and harassmentfree work and service delivery environment. The incumbent is expected to act and provide advice in accordance with the ethics and obligations of the legal profession. Special Conditions The incumbent must hold a current Australian work eligibility status and will be subject to a criminal history check. The incumbent may be assigned to other duties at this remuneration level or equivalent. Some out of hours work and intra/interstate travel may be required. The incumbent is required to participate in SAPOLs iEngage program. Requirements A degree in law and admitted, or eligible for admission, as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia and possession of an unrestricted Practicing Certificate.
