The Role We are seeking an Associate / Senior Associate with strong planning and environment foundations and a genuine appetite for contentious work. This is a substantive, handson role working closely with the firms Directors across a diverse portfolio of projects and disputes. You will advise and appear in VCAT, Planning Panels Victoria, the Supreme Court and other commissions on complex matters involving planning, environment and regulatory frameworks. Planning permit applications, scheme amendments and ministerial approvals Environmental risk management, impact assessment and advice Enforcement proceedings, injunctions and statutory planning litigation Tribunal and Court appearances across planning and environment disputes Heritage, native title and land use restriction matters Compulsory acquisition advice and proceedings Easements, s 173 agreements and restrictive covenants Hospitality, licensing and related commercial matters Managing a varied file load across planning, environment, property and regulatory projects Mentoring and supervising junior staff and refining draft advice and documents Engaging with consultants and expert witnesses, including planners and technical consultants Negotiating with responsible authorities, including councils, the EPA and other regulators Building strong client relationships and contributing to business development activities About You You are a driven, strategic lawyer who enjoys complex work and meaningful client interaction. You are confident running matters with autonomy, communicating clearly and contributing to a growing and ambitious practice. You will bring: 46+ years PAE with solid planning & environment experience or commercial litigation experience Demonstrated advocacy or disputes experience (Tribunals, Panels, Courts or enforcement proceedings) Strong knowledge of relevant Victorian and Australian statutory frameworks Excellent project management skills and attention to detail Ability to supervise and develop junior team members A practical, commercially minded approach to problemsolving A proactive mindset and ability to build trusted client relationships You must hold a valid practising certificate and have full Australian working rights.
