With a dedicated workforce of professional service providers, we are committed to ensuring the City of Nedlands is a vibrant, safe, and inclusive community with a high standard of local services and facilities.About the roleReporting to the Coordinator Planning Approvals, this is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented Urban Planner to contribute to the development of our growing City. You will play a key role in ensuring the Citys planning objectives align with legislative frameworks and community expectations.In this role, you will (but not limited to):Assess and process development and subdivision applications in accordance with the WA Statutory Planning Framework and local planning policies.Investigate compliance matters and resolve planning issues through mediation and stakeholder negotiation.Provide professional planning advice to internal teams, external agencies, developers, consultants, and the wider community.Represent the City in meetings and at the State Administrative Tribunal as required.Contribute to policy development and strategic planning initiatives by supporting internal reviews and offering insights into broader City strategies.Conduct site inspections and participate in community consultation activities, including some outside standard business hours.About the successful candidateTo be successful in this role, you will bring a strong understanding of statutory planning in Western Australia, with the ability to apply legislation and policy effectively in a local government setting.You will be proactive, solutions-focused, and confident in working with a diverse range of stakeholders to deliver practical, community-oriented planning outcomes.Other essential requirements are:A tertiary qualification (or significant progress towards) in Urban and Regional Planning or a relevant field.Minimum 2 years experience in a similar urban planning role (Level 5).Eligibility for full membership with the Planning Institute of Australia (Level 5).Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with strong report writing and stakeholder engagement capabilities.Excellent organiser and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and GIS systems.A current National Police Certificate.What we offerThis permanent, full-time role offers a cash salary of $84,739 - $114,945 per annum, dependent on skills and experience, plus superannuation.5 weeks Annual Leave.Paid Parental Leave (12 weeks primary carer / 2 weeks partner leave).Up to 14% superannuation contributions.Training and development opportunities.Employee Assistance Program & Healthy Workplace Initiatives.Fitness Passport wellness program access.Novated Leasing and Salary Sacrifice options.Please read the position description to ensure a full understanding of the role.
