Experienced communicator, content and copy writerHI Friends is a community wellbeing charity based in Histon and Impington, and has a dedicated Older Peoples'' Team providing a range of services and activities. This includes a Lunch Club (formerly Histon & Impington Day Centre) which operates twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays. Around 14 people can attend each session at the Kay Hitch Way Community Centre in Histon.The Lunch Club relies on a mix of employed staff and volunteers who help front of house and in the kitchen. A cook is needed for the Friday sessions and the role may be flexible as a termtime position only.Key role informationNumber of hours 22 hours per month (4 sessions Friday weekly)Term of contract Initial 12month contract from February 2026 to February 2027Remuneration Real Living WageLine manager Lunch Club Manager / Charity ManagerStart date 1 February 2026Compliance Enhanced DBS required and Level 2 Food Hygiene must be held as a minimumKey Role ResponsibilitiesPlan, prepare and cook nutritious twocourse meals, working with the Lunch Club Manager to plan menus for older people.Order all food supplies promptly and maintain food stocks within budget.Prepare fresh ingredients for each session and cook meals thoroughly to ensure harmful bacteria are killed.Adhere to dietary requirements, including food allergies, glutenfree, diabetic and celiac needs.Ensure daily opening and closing checks are performed, and comply with food hygiene regulations (e.g., separating foods, crosscontamination, personal hygiene, clothing).Defrost, chill, cool and display foods according to hygiene standards; keep accurate records.Manage general cleaning of all food areas and maintain a high standard of hygiene and safety.ExperienceExperience in a catering role preparing and cooking meals.Ability to work in a timecritical environment.Uptodate Food Hygiene training or willingness to complete training.Experience working with volunteers.Working knowledge of Food Hygiene and general Health & Safety.Experience planning menus for older people.Experience in an environment supporting older people.Closing date for applications: 5pm Monday 19th January 2024If you would like to talk about the role or arrange a visit, please contact Sally Smith at 07772 437789 or [email protected].
