We are seeking experienced and successful leaders to fill several Assistant Commissioner roles in the ATOs Compliance and Engagement Group. As an Assistant Commissioner, you will play a pivotal role in leading diverse teams, driving strategic outcomes, and delivering contemporary services that meet the evolving needs of our clients. Youll empower others by sharing knowledge, experiences, and feedback freely, while actively developing the technical and professional capabilities of your teams and beyond. Youll work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop a deep understanding of the environment and context taxpayers operate in and ultimately develop and deliver contemporary products and services that meet the needs of our varied client groups. In particular: Assistant Commissioner Technical Leadership and Advice provide authoritative technical leadership, setting strategic direction for the interpretation and application of complex tax and superannuation law, and guiding the ATOs position on significant technical matters lead the ATOs engagement with key government stakeholders, including Treasury and other agencies, by offering high level technical advice that supports whole of government initiatives and informs the development and administration of legislation represent the ATO in senior forums and cross agency working groups, ensuring the organisations technical positions are clearly articulated, evidence based and aligned with broader government objectives influence the development and design of new law by interpreting, applying and communicating legislation, resolving areas of technical ambiguity, and providing insights that shape effective, clear and administrable policy outcomes serve the community, government and taxpayers by ensuring tax and superannuation laws are understood, administered and applied with confidence, integrity and technical precision. Assistant Commissioner Engagement and Assurance provide senior leadership over Engagement & Assurance programs designed to mitigate risks across the tax and superannuation systems lead large teams that engage early with taxpayers to understand arrangements and risks, provide certainty, and support voluntary compliance. Where risks are identified you and your teams will lead complex audits through the dispute processes including settlement or litigation where necessary be involved in the highest profile tax cases that impact on the way tax is administered shape and implement strategic approaches to compliance, assurance, and taxpayer engagement, including contributions to broader ATO strategies and Government commitments ensure high quality, contemporary products, services and treatments are delivered to support taxpayer compliance. Assistant Commissioner Fraud, Risk and Programs provide strategic leadership of the ATOs fraud, risk and integrity approaches, setting direction for governance, capability building, risk prioritisation and early intervention strategies that protect the community, economy and the integrity of the tax and super systems drive whole of government and cross agency coordination, strengthening collaboration with federal, state and territory partners to address risks and support consistent, effective responses to emerging threats shape the operation of the tax and super systems, influencing policy, legislative design and program settings to support effective administration and reduce systemic vulnerabilities demonstrate investigations, compliance and enforcement experience and the capability to apply intelligence informed decisions when working with partner agencies to deliver effective compliance outcomes demonstrate (or the ability to quickly acquire) knowledge and application of the Commonwealth Fraud and Corruption Control Framework support and educate taxpayers, helping them navigate the tax system confidently while contributing to work of national importance that underpins the funding of essential services and infrastructure.
