About the role Applications are sought from experienced lawyers for the senior legal role of Information Officer. This role provides support to the Deputy Solicitor (Legal) and the Deputy Solicitor (Legal Operations) in acting on behalf of the Director and Solicitor in relation to various information requests received by the Office. The role is responsible for the coordination of responses on behalf of the ODPP for numerous different types of information request including subpoenas, applications under the Government Information (Public Access) Act, Working with Children checks and many others. It involves interrogating the ODPPs holdings in relation to the request, liaising with issuers of subpoenas and summonses in relation to issues of legal privilege and legitimate forensic purpose and coordinating the collation of material by legal teams and paralegals. Appropriate training will be provided to the successful applicant who will be selected on the basis of having significant experience in criminal law and/or administrative law, demonstrated excellence in legal analysis, sound judgment, excellent communication and organisational skills and an ability to work within strict deadlines and under close supervision. Key accountabilities include: Coordinating the responses to consultations and applications received by the ODPP under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009. Considering and preparing responses for other information requests including considering the Offices obligations under the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002. Assisting with summonses and notices to produce issued by other agencies including the State Coroner or Special Commissions of Inquiry, Working with Children agencies, and in relation to High Risk Offender and Terrorism High Risk Offender Orders being considered by the Attorney-General. Co-ordinating responses to subpoenas issued to the Director of Public Prosecutions Liaising with the Crown Solicitors Office (CSO) where the CSO is instructed by the Director in relation to a subpoena. Meeting strict deadlines in the preparation of responses to the various requests, while ensuring that the Deputy Solicitor (Legal) and the Deputy Solicitor (Legal Operations) are kept up-to-date as to progress. Reviewing and drafting the ODPPs internal policies and resources in relation to information requests. About you You will require a degree or diploma in law and admission as an Australian legal practitioner. To be eligible to practice at the ODPP, you will need to have obtained a Practising Certificate issued by the Law Society of NSW prior to commencing. Experience in criminal law and/or administrative law will be required.
