Position Overview Parttime (0.6 FTE) 9month fixedterm Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) commencing Term2,2026, subject to possible extension or permanency. Responsibilities The AIEO is a liaison between the school and community, working closely with teachers, students and families to develop culturally relevant programs that empower Indigenous students to achieve their potential, foster a supportive learning environment and deliver culturally responsive education programs. Eligibility Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section50d of the Equal Opportunity Act1984 (WA); only Aboriginal applicants will be considered. Australian or NewZealand citizen, permanent resident or holder of a valid visa that permits work for the term of appointment. Valid Working With Children Check prior to appointment. Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number from the Department of Educations Screening Unit before appointment. Selection Criteria Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the histories, languages, social and cultural protocols of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of culturally responsive strategies that support the wellbeing, engagement and learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, liaise with parents/caregivers, families, teachers and community members, and assist teachers to understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students needs. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of building culturally safe environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Demonstrated effective organisational skills to assist in the delivery of culturally responsive education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or allied health professionals.
