Plant Operator Waste and Resource Recovery Park Location: Wollongong, New South Wales Employment Type: Fulltime, Permanent Shift Pattern: 9dayson, 5daysoff roster (Monday to Sunday). Starting at 7:00am; overtime and weekend work may be required. Salary: $77,824.07 to $85,916.92 per annum plus superannuation. Minimum increase of 3.25% from 1 July2026 in accordance with Council''s Enterprise Agreement. This handson role involves operating and maintaining plant and equipment at the Wollongong Waste and Resource Recovery Park. You will support daily waste and resource recovery operations, conduct prestart checks, perform minor maintenance, and adhere to strict safety and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities Operate frontend loaders, excavators and other plant/equipment to support waste and resource recovery operations. Carry out and document prestart checks, together with minor maintenance and cleaning of equipment. Assist with safe movement, compaction and processing of waste and recyclable materials in line with environmental and legislative requirements. Monitor waste and recycling dropoff areas; support correct separation and disposal practices. Provide clear, courteous directions and advice to customers regarding waste disposal and site requirements. Support site presentation and maintenance, including general labouring, grounds upkeep and facility cleaning as required. Work collaboratively with team members, contractors and supervisors to maintain a safe and efficient work environment. Comply with all Work Health and Safety procedures, policies and site rules at all times. Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation relevant to site operations. Licences and Certifications WHS Construction Induction Card (White Card) must be held on commencement. Front End Loader certification must be held on commencement. HR Licence must be held on commencement. Articulated Dump Truck competence. Forklift licence. Skid Steer Operations certification. Landfill Compactor and Excavator competence. Required Experience and Skills Proven experience operating plant and equipment in an operational or industrial environment. Ability to complete prestart checks and perform minor plant maintenance. Strong awareness of Work Health and Safety principles and practices. Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision. Good communication skills and confidence to interact professionally with the public. Physical capability to safely undertake the duties of the role.
