The Office of the Chief Environmental Biosecurity Officer (OCEBO) provides policy leadership and support for environmental biosecurity and is the home of the Australian Chief Environmental Biosecurity Officer (ACEBO). The OCEBO provides policy leadership and support for national environmental biosecurity issues to ensure Australia''s environment, First Nations cultural heritage and social amenity interests are safeguarded from the impacts of exotic and established pests, weeds and diseases. The OCEBO is comprised of the Environmental Biosecurity Office (EBO), which also oversees the Australian Plague Locust Commissions activities. The aims of the EBO are to: promote and advocate for environmental biosecurity domestically and internationally provide leadership and generate collaborations to strengthen environmental biosecurity outcomes ensure environmental biosecurity risks are understood, identified and prioritised improve the maturity of Australia''s environmental biosecurity preparedness, surveillance and response capacity support effective responses to detections and incursions of environmental pests, weeds and diseases administer funding programs to support projects that reduce environmental biosecurity risk The EBO is seeking an Assistant Director First Nations, to provide strategic leadership and expert advice on the integration of First Nations knowledge, perspectives and participation in environmental biosecurity policy, preparedness and response. The role supports key departmental initiatives through high quality policy work, stakeholder engagement and strong partnerships with First Nations peoples and biosecurity stakeholders. This is where you play an important role. As the Assistant Director - First Nations, you will: Provide expert advice on First Nations issues relevant to environmental biosecurity. Lead and coordinate the departments First Nations engagement across environmental biosecurity initiatives, including: First Nations involvement in the DAFFCSIRO Catalysing Australias Biosecurity Initiative, supporting the co-development of fit for purpose research, innovation and technology solutions, and the creation of economic opportunities for First Nations peoples. Ensure meaningful involvement of First Nations interests in the design, delivery and outcomes of environmental biosecurity activities. Support genuine, ongoing partnerships and engagement with First Nations peoples in line with environmental biosecurity objectives. Prepare high quality briefings, papers, reports and other written material for senior decision makers. Provide strategic advice and represent the department on internal and external committees and working groups. Liaise with Commonwealth, state and territory agencies, and other biosecurity, environmental and agricultural stakeholders, and establish and maintain effective relationships to support environmental biosecurity preparedness, response and policy development. Mentor and supervise staff and contribute to branch and divisional priorities. Maintain a strong understanding of relevant legislation, government decision making processes, and agency policies. Stay informed on government programs and emerging issues relating to environmental pests, weeds and diseases. Our ideal candidate will haveKnowledge and experience Experience developing, implementing and managing biosecurity or other science-based policies and programs. Proven leadership capability, including managing teams with diverse functions, setting priorities, and responding effectively to competing and short notice demands. Experience working within legislative frameworks and government decision making processes, including applying agency policies and guidelines.
