National Zoo & Aquarium and Jamala Wildlife Lodge The National Zoo and Aquarium is regarded as not only one of the leading zoos in Australia but has also been voted by the Australian Tourism Authority as one of the top two Major Tourist Attractions in Australia in their annual Tourism Awards. Jamala Wildlife Lodge is considered among the top animal lodges in the world and has won numerous local, national and international awards, including Best Luxury Accommodation in Australia, Most Unique Accommodation in Australia, along with being voted by 11 out of 14 countries as the Best Experiential Accommodation in Australia. We are looking for a Facilities Manager (FM) to oversee maintenance, horticulture, cleaning and minor building projects. We currently have 25 staff in the maintenance sections, including tradesmen. Five of these are in the Horticultural Section and work to the Horticulture Manager, who will report to the Facilities Manager. The Checklist Section, who primarily handle zoo and Jamala cleaning and presentation will also report to the FM. The team handle most general maintenance of the zoo, the aquarium and Jamala. We have a carpenter, welder, skilled workers and labourers/cleaners in our employ, along with full-time electrical and painting contractors who will report to the FM. We also have operators for our machinery that comprises some 105 vehicles including an excavator, tractor, trucks, utes, elevated work platform, bobcats, mowers, sweepers, buggies etc. The FM will also take care of this equipment, machinery and vehicles and their maintenance programs. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate a solid background in managing and coordinating a sizable team of diverse maintenance workers and/or contractors with a variety of responsibilities. As the position will be hands-on as well as management, a trade qualification and/or builders licence would be beneficial, but not essential. The ability to manage a budget and to oversee the general work ethic are requirements.
