This position is based on our dynamic and busy Cardiothoracic and vascular Ward alongside our Cardiothoracic and vascular team of nurses, doctors and allied Health Staff. You will be working Monday to Wednesday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (with opportunity to pick up additional shifts across our Surgical Services wards or other departments). You will be job sharing this ward clerk position with our other wonderful Ward Clerk. Whilst you as the Ward clerk will be required to navigate sometimes challenging and emotional relatives and patients, the culture is highly supportive and collaborative, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and professional development. Our staff is encouraged to take initiative and manage competing priorities, and we foster continuous learning and improvement. You will encounter situations that require you to handle sensitive matters with empathy and professionalism.About the role: A typical day as a Ward Clerk at John Hunter Hospital involves a variety of responsibilities that contribute to the efficient operation of the units. These tasks include: First Point of Contact: Serve as the initial contact for the wards by responding to phone calls, emails, and patient inquiries. Family Support: Assist families with questions, offering information and support regarding the care of their loved ones. Patient Records Management: Maintain precise patient records by updating charts and compiling documentation for the Clinical Information Department (CID) for scanning into patient files. Collaboration: Work closely with various departments and staff, including the Nurse Unit Managers, nursing staff, clinicians, allied health professionals, the Clinical Support Officers, and other administrative personnel. Appointment Scheduling: Arrange follow-up appointments for patients. Data Entry: Ensure accurate data entry on the patient journey board. The successful applicant will receive comprehensive support through an induction and training program, which includes both face-to-face and online training, along with mentorship to facilitate a smooth transition into the role. We ideally would like to roster 2 weeks of training to begin with.
