About the role The Digital Delivery team are seeking an experienced Senior Developer to maintain Treasury-managed Drupal websites. The multidisciplinary team is responsible for the Treasury corporate website, Federal Budget and Ministers websites, the intranet and other Treasury websites. The Digital Delivery team sits within the Communications Branch and works closely with the Information Services Branch to ensure the communication and digital aspects are undertaken collaboratively. This is a critical, hands-on role where the Senior Developer contributes to development, site maintenance, configuration, Drupal core and module updates, security patching, managing third party integrations and data migrations. The Senior Developer will be responsible for: Maintaining and supporting Acquia-hosted, multi-site Drupal environments, ensuring stable workflows, reliable deployments and resolution of complex issues across performance, caching, integrations and background processes to maintain platform availability and reliability. Configuring and managing Drupal access controls, modules, security and dependency updates, including changes associated with upgrades as well as database backups, restores, and migrations. Maintaining and optimising Drupal integrations, including APIs and third-party search services, ensuring compliance with government security and risk requirements in accordance with agreed standards and delivery priorities. Designing and delivering best-practice development solutions, reducing technical debt and contributing to continuous improvement to support timely delivery of new and evolving requirements. Providing technical support across both front-end and back-end systems, troubleshooting, producing clear technical documentation and working collaboratively with developers, web publishers and stakeholders to meet organisational needs. You will demonstrate: Extensive experience managing Drupal websites in a multi site, multi environment context with a sound understanding of Drupal database management. Practical experience developing and maintaining Drupal modules and integrations. Strong technical capability in diagnosing and resolving complex issues and professional accountability. A delivery focused approach with the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to change. Strong organisational skills, including managing competing priorities, problem solving and negotiation skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to engage effectively with technical and non technical stakeholders. The ability to work independently or as part of a team. Technical skills / experience Essential experience: Extensive experience in full-stack Drupal development, including development and integration with external systems, alongside deployments, release management, and operational support. Managing platform-as-a-service (PaaS) environments (Acquia or equivalent) in a multi site/multi environment context. Planning and delivering Drupal version upgrades, including upgrade readiness, risk mitigation and rollout planning across multiple sites. Implementing Drupal core, contributed module and dependency updates, including security patches and urgent releases. Building and maintaining Drupal websites outside GovCMS, including configuration management, environment parity and upgrades. Working effectively in small project teams with limited supervision, exercising sound judgement and technical ownership. Delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, while maintaining quality, security, and compliance standards. Desirable experience: Implementing Drupal caching and performance optimisation, including Varnish, CDN integration, and cache invalidation strategies. Modifying Drupal themes to align with design prototypes, including use of Twig, CSS, and front end best practices. Applying Australian Government digital standards, including WCAG accessibility, usability best practice and compliance requirements.
