ASIO is seeking an experienced strategic leader to fill the role of Assistant DirectorGeneral - Internal Security Services. This senior position offers the chance to shape the Organisation''s protective security architecture. You will set the strategic direction for security planning and risk management, embed security into the Organisation''s core business processes, and drive a continual uplift of our security culture. You will also oversee the investigation, response and reporting of security incidents, sustain a robust insiderthreat program, and have Chief Security Officer responsibilities for personnel, physical, and ICT/cyber security. This process may be used to fill future ICT and/or personnel security roles. As such, we welcome applicants who may have relevant skills and experience in one or both of these domains. Working closely with the Senior Executive team and a dedicated group of security professionals, you will translate strategic intent into tangible outcomes that enable ASIO and our people. The role provides exposure to the full spectrum of internalsecurity challenges and a clear pathway to further senior intelligence and security leadership positions within ASIO. A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months. Role responsibilities As Assistant Director-General - Internal Security Services in ASIO, you will: Set the strategic direction with senior leaders for protective security planning and risk management. Integrate security into the Organisation''s risk and business processes. Lead continual uplift of our organisational security culture. Oversee the investigation, response and reporting of security incidents, including the sustainment of an insider threat program. Assume Chief Security Officer responsibilities for the Organisation, implementing Protective Security Framework requirements and delivering security outcomes for Personnel, Physical, Information and Communication Technology/Cyber security. Contribute to divisional and organisational programs including capability uplift, mentoring and leadership requirements. Build strong external relationships, representing ASIO in relevant National Intelligence Community and international fora. Actively contribute to and champion ASIO''s purpose, key priorities and enablers as reflected in the ASIO Corporate Plan 2025-29. Manage resources, including budget and staff to maximise capability and outcomes and manage risks. Demonstrate and promote ASIO''s Leadership Behaviours and effective people management. Demonstrate strong financial leadership and budget accountability. Ability to establish and maintain strategic partnerships across national and international agencies, broader government and the private sector, and make decisions in the best interests of ASIO as a whole. Appreciation of the legal frameworks relevant to working in government and the National Intelligence Community, including the Protective Security Policy Framework. Proven experience in the protective security environment is strongly preferred. This includes a strong understanding of insider threat, cyber and physical security and the management of investigative and/or operational activities. Demonstrated ability to deliver within budget and drive out costs from the business.
